Welcome Spirit of Tasmania

Congratulations on your launch voyage this morning - it’s so exciting for our city!

This is the beautiful sight which will greet travellers when they arrive in Geelong (along with of course, Mr. History tours on Saturday mornings + private tours available for groups!)

I’ve had the pleasure the last few days of talking employees from the Spirit of Tasmania brochure exchange & tourism representatives around Geelong and showing them exactly what Mr History has to offer!

Stay tuned for the launch of our spring/summer tour dates.

SCHOOL TOURS //

Mr History is looking forward to taking local schools on four specially crafted school tours of Geelong throughout this week!

Have a read of this article below which appeared in the ‘Town Talk’ section on Friday February 20, 1874 - it’s wonderful to know that we are helping to continue the long-standing history of school children exploring our wonderful city!

Bookings for school’s excursions/tours can be made here: http://www.mrhistory.com.au/bookings/

TAG A TALENTED GEELONG TEACHER who you think could handle two train loads of students on an excursion to Geelong!

Today I took a corporate group around Geelong on this beautiful Friday afternoon. How wonderful that the staff of Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine have enriched their minds in the history of Geelong.

After a bit of research I was able to include some tidbits about the history of tourism in Geelong on the tour. How’s this quote from the Geelong Advertiser from back in 1875.

Geelong Advertiser “Town Talk”
Friday October 22 1875

“No person can say he has properly “done” London if he has not visited the Tower, the Houses of Parliament, the National Gallery, and other such places, any more than a visitor to Paris could say he has seen all the was worth seeing if he had neglected the Lourve, the Pantheon, les Gobelins or even Pere Lachaise. We have no places in Geelong possessed of such historical reminiscences, but have our woollen factories, and to miss visiting these would be an acknowledged oversight on the part of any tourist.”

The staff of the Geelong & The Bellarine have certainly ‘done’ Geelong after hearing the of stories of yesteryear!
