MIND GOALS // MICHELE MITTEN, SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY PARTNER

We’re excited to welcome Mind Goals Psychology as our official Sports Psychology Partner, strengthening the support available to our Geelong Swimming Club community.

Michele Mitten is both a Clinical and Performance Psychologist with extensive experience supporting athletes across a range of sports, as well as musicians and other performance-driven individuals.

This partnership provides our members with access to professional sports psychology support to help swimmers navigate both performance and personal challenges.

At Geelong Swimming Club, we’re committed to supporting the whole athlete, in and out of the pool, and the Club is proud to take this next step in strengthening our athlete wellbeing and performance pathway.

COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS WRAP UP

What a weekend! Three massive days at our home pool to claim our fifth consecutive long course country championships, by just 44 points. The competition remained close throughout the weekend with Traralgon pushing us until the very end.

Check our weekend by the numbers below πŸ‘‡πŸΌ
78 athletes
311 individual swims
34 relays
45 finalists
140 finals
57 medals
20 πŸ₯‡
19 πŸ₯ˆ
19 πŸ₯‰

Nicole Briscoe took home the award for the highest FINA points score of the meet in the 18/o 50 backstroke. Whilst Bradley Doolan won the award for most points by a multiclass swimmer across the weekend.

This result would not have been possible without the incredible work of our incredible coaching group - their investment in our athletes has been instrumental in their success. Thank you!

A massive thank you to our ARMY of volunteers who made the weekend so smooth. From team managing, organising coaches food, being on the entry gate, emptying rubbish bins, timekeeping, manning the BBQ and everything inbetween!! Our Club is a special place to be when everyone is so engaged in our success.

Congratulations to all involved in a great weekend!

It was wonderful to have some of our life members join us at our home Country Championships today!

We were joined by Tony Strahan, Peter Doak, John Beckworth, Sadat Hussain, Vicki Kelly, Karen Briscoe, Phoebe Mitchell and Libby Mitchell for afternoon tea and seeing our club chant before watching tonight’s finals session.

Our life members, many of whom are volunteers, have contributed a great amount of time and energy to our club to ensure its success across many years, culminating in the GSC of today that we know and love.

Involvement. Opportunity. Excellence. Enjoyment.

The Geelong Swimming Club has a long and proud history, and is well over 100 years old. We first began as The Geelong Western Swimming Club which was formed on December 7th, 1882.

The Victorian Amateur Swimming Association (V.A.S.A.), prior to the formation of Swimming Victoria Inc. was formed in 1893 and the Geelong Western Swimming Club affiliated with it, in the 1895/96 season. In 1932 Geelong, Meredith, Geelong Western, Parkside and St. Helens Clubs affiliated, and formed the Geelong and District Amateur Swimming Association.

Ladies were first admitted in 1929, but they broke away and formed the Geelong Western Ladies Swimming Club. In 1959 they returned to the Men’s club, but retained their own identity as the Ladies section with their own Secretary, Treasurer and Committee. There was full amalgamation in May 1966.

In 1970 the Geelong Western club changed its name to the Geelong Swimming Club (the old Geelong Club had ceased existence in 1937) and established its headquarters at the Geelong & District Memorial Swimming Centre (Kardinia Pool). In 1984 the Club became an incorporated body – The Geelong Swimming Club Inc.
