Geelong Junior Cricket Season

UMPIRES FOR JUNIOR FINALS
Hi GJCA Community,
With the home and away part of the season completed, we now move onto Finals this coming weekend.
• Friday Night Comp – Fri 27th February – All U13 Semis (4.45pm to 8.15pm)
• Saturday Morning Comp – Sat 28th Feb – 13 Norquay & Scott One Day Games - Semis
• Saturday Morning Comp – Sat 28th Feb & Sun 1st March – Two Day Games – U13 Royce, U15, U17 – semis (All Sat/Sun Games 8am to 11.30am)
For these Semi Final Games – we require independent umpires. These umpires receive a total payment of $100 to be paid by the competing clubs ($50 each club). If you or someone from your club is interested, please complete the Google Form (Link Below) by Thurs 26th Feb at 2pm. This will enable time to complete the allocation for as many games as possible.
Ideally these umpires should be knowledgeable of the various junior rules that apply to each of the grades. All umpires should be 17 years or over.

U11 and U13 Friday Night Fixtures have been uploaded for this week Jan 30th.

The fixtures for the remaining games will be published tomorrow.
Please note the following:

* U11s have 5 games remaining including this week and will finish on Friday 27th February (no ladders, so no finals)

* The last round of U11s is similar to the First, Mostly Intraclub where possible.

* U13s have 4 games remaining including this week,

* U13s - Semis on Feb 27th and GFs on March 6th (Long Weekend)

* Semis and GFs for U13s will be at home ground for Higher Placed Ladder Finish

EDIT: yes please make sure you are giving the kids extra drink breaks where needed. We also ask that you keep the games moving so that you don’t end up out when it is super hot. Good luck everybody!

Afternoon everyone, just addressing tomorrow’s heat policy and the questions that will be coming. Here is our policy as in the rules.

If the temperature reading for ‘Geelong’ - taken at 7:00am on the morning of play, according to Bureau of Meteorology website

or app - is forecast as 35 degrees Celsius or above for 9:00am, 10:00am or 11:00am on the morning of a match day, all

scheduled matches will be cancelled, and notifications put on the GJBC page, as soon as possible.

At this stage all looks good as it’s not expected to reach 35 until around 1pm. Obviously it will be warm so please remind your kids to drink plenty of water and look after themselves. If there are any updates and games to be cancelled we will post no later than 7am. No news is good news 🏏🤞pp

Game update for U15 GCA 2 V Colac Blue.

IMPORTANT: As Ellimatta Reserve is deemed to be in a high bush fire risk facility, all games fixtured there have been moved.

New Venue: Shaw Oval, Queens Park.

IMPORTANT COUNTRY WEEK INFO - HOT WEATHER - WEDNESDAY

Match Arrangements for Wednesday, 3 January

Given the projected weather conditions for Round 3 of BJCW on Wednesday, 7 January, here is an important announcement regarding matches scheduled for Wednesday.

The matches will proceed on that day, but the playing arrangements will be varied to align with the heat policy of not playing when it is above 35 degrees.

The following are the amended playing arrangements for this day’s play.

Under 13 JMF: (Sections 2 to 7)

Matches will commence at the earlier commencement time of 8.30am. However, matches can also commence at an earlier time if mutually agreed to by both competing teams.

The matches will be 20/20 over matches (in lieu of 30 over matches) , with all batting and bowling restrictions reduced by 1/3rd (ie reduced by one third).

Under 13 Rep (Section 1) and under 15:

Matches will commence at the earlier commencement time of 8.30am. However, matches can also commence at an earlier time if mutually agreed to by both competing teams.

The matches will be 20/20 matches (in lieu of 40 over matches), with all batting and bowling restrictions reduced by 1/2 (ie reduced by one half).

Under 17:

Matches will resume at the earlier commencement time of 8.30am. However, matches can also resume at an earlier time if mutually agreed to by both competing teams.

Matches will finish when 180 overs have been completed for the match, or 11.00am, whichever occurs first.

General Comments:

The intention that is that all games are completed on Wednesday by 11am prior to the projected temperature reaching 35 degrees, in line with our heat policy to not play when the temperature is above 35 degrees.

Note also that if any parent or guardian has any concerns about their child playing on Wednesday due to the projected heat, we are leaving the final decision of whether a player plays on Wednesday to their parent or guardian – if the parent of guardian does not wish that their child play on Wednesday, that child should not play.

Can you please share the above information with your fellow players so that everyone is aware of the amended match arrangements

Note that matches may still be cancelled if the projected temperature is anticipated to be above 35 degrees for the morning period from 8.30am to 11am. A further announcement to this effect will be made by 9pm on Tuesday, 6 January.

Note also that some or all matches may be cancelled if the local council for a ground declares that that ground is unavailable for play on Wednesday due to implementation of that council’s bushfire emergency policy. Further announcements will also be made should that be the case.
