As we prepare for International Day of People with Disability on 3 December, we're calling out the discrimination that often happens when it comes to neurodiversity and aquatics.

🤦‍♀️Myth: As an aquatic provider, our team doesn't have the time or skills to invest in providing aquatic inclusion programs

👍 Fact: Accessing professional development provided in the Autism Swim certification can be done in a flexible way AND be counted towards professional development hours.

🤦‍♀️Myth: Students who are neurodivergent or have other abilities need one on one support

👍 Fact: Yes, that's true for some. And for others, that's not. Making assumptions or providing limitations can be potentially harmful, so it's best to understand what types of support requirements each individual has and implement strategies tailored to their specific needs.

🤦‍♀️Myth: It's too hard to take on students who are on the autism spectrum

👍Fact: Drowning is the leading cause of death for children on the autism spectrum. Offering aquatic services to one of our most vulnerable groups isn't a 'nice to have' - it's a MUST. If your swim school isn't providing inclusive strategies to supporting neurodivergent students, why not?

Autism Swim is making a wave of change to bring acceptance and inclusion for neurodivergent and other abilities in aquatics.

We need your help to keep us on this mission - Donate to our fundraiser (Link in bio) to help us continue.
