Honoured to have helped with the delivery of the 2026 .au Australian HR Institute WA State Conference, and incredibly surprised to be named WA Volunteer of the Year 2025. After 25 years in HR, giving back to this profession and community (particularly in the last 17 years in Australia) continues to mean so much to me. Huge thanks to everyone involved for the support, encouragement and opportunities over the years. And thanks to the many many volunteers who create amazing events and share their vast knowledge, to make this one of the best communities you’ll ever be a part of.

I’m on leave from the ‘main’ job this week so remembering what it’s like to live in my beautiful town. #lovegeraldton A walk along the foreshore with some clay play before and after, getting some more book earrings ready in anticipation of #bigskyreadersandwritersfestival starting Thursday. By having regular, meaningful conversations, you build trust and normalise talking about what’s really going on, so when the people in your world find themselves struggling, they know you’re someone they can talk to.

As a HR professional, I have supported many people over the years by asking these questions. But I’ve also been supported by people asking me. There is no shame in needing support or seeking help when you’re not feeling like yourself or are having a difficult time. And remember asking these questions might just change a life!

Unlocking team potential was the name of the game earlier in the week when Carrie spent a couple of hours with the fabulous team at AbleKids Occupational Therapy.

As part of a professional development day, Carrie talked about understanding your own drivers and ways of looking at the world, as well as how to leverage your own strengths. She also spoke about how understanding how your team mates operate can lead to enhanced productivity and also more enjoyment!

No session by Carrie can go by without a little fun, so the comedy glasses were cracked out for an entertaining way of looking at how we view behaviour through our own ‘lens’. It was so much fun that Carrie forgot to take pictures!

Another fantastic session and we’d like to thank Prue and the team for inviting us to be a part of the day. It’s great to see businesses investing in their teams.
