HISTORYThe history of Clinton Soccer Club (now Clinton Football Club) is one of Gladstone’s sporting success stories that started almost forty years ago.

In March 1971 a group of soccer supporters met in the Town Hall for the purpose of forming a new club. By the time they walked out, Clinton Park Soccer Club was born. The word ‘Park’ was later deleted. By 1973 the new club was struggling and looked in danger of folding partly due to inaugural president, George Coffin, leaving town.Fortunately two newcomers came to Gladstone that year, Bill Wyper a

Clinton’s Premier Men have secured the early spot in the Grand Final with a hard fought 2-1 win over Frenchville.

It was a tough scrappy contest with nothing between the two teams, and both sides certainly had their opportunities in front of goal.

Frenchville struck first with a well-placed header from a cross, before Clinton found the equaliser through an own goal following a well delivered corner from Spud.

Clinton produced the best piece of play of the game when after nice build up play Billy Noonan rose superbly to head home a perfectly placed cross from Spud and give the boys the 2-1 lead at half time.

From there, Clinton held on to secure the 2–1 win and book their place in the season decider.

The week off is certainly very much needed for our boys who are carrying quite a few injuries at the moment.

Coach Michael is delighted to be heading into another Grand Final and will now prepare his side for the season decider against either Frenchville or Nerimbera at Marley Brown Oval on September 19.

Clinton’s U23 side played Nerimbera in what they knew was going to be a close contest and it certainly panned out that way. Nerimbera took an early lead after five minutes of play with a ball over the top and a good finish to make it 1-0.

Soon after Clinton equalised with Ish converting a penalty after Sonny was fouled in the box. Keeper Giff made a couple of good saves to keep it at 1-1 and wingers Dylan Wilshaw and Matt Johansen had good chances throughout the half but couldn’t quite find the net.

Against the run of play Nerimbera scored from an unchallenged corner just before the break to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. An improved second half performance saw a few chances created for the greens before Nerimbera were awarded a penalty to make it 3-1. Sonny Houghton scored with ten minutes to go to make it 3-2 and set up an exciting finish. With two minutes to go Clinton was unlucky when a good chance was put over the bar and the Maggies took the win and progress in the final’s series.

Well done to the U23 team and coaching crew of Paul, Boo and JB on their season. There are certainly plenty of positives to take from the year and we look forward to watching the side in 2027.

The Clinton Ladies have also booked the early spot in the Grand Final with an awesome team performance to take a 4-2 win against Central.

Clinton led 2-0 at the break after a brilliant Skye Noonan double and then extended the lead to 3-0 with Skye heading in a well delivered corned from Kodi. Central fought back with two goals to make it 3-2 and set up a very tense last five minutes of play. Izzy put the game to bed in the dying minutes though, scoring to extend the Greens lead to 4-2 and give the girls a well deserved finals berth and week off. They will play either Central or Bluebirds in the Grand Final.

Coach Gaz was very happy with the girl’s efforts and performance right across the park but Skye for her fantastic match and Sam who was brilliant in defence were very deserving Players of the Match.

Clinton Player of the Match: Entire team

The FQPL U15 side secured a 1-0 victory against familiar rivals BITS to book a spot in the Grand Final at Marley Brown oval on Saturday week.

The BITS team tested the Grubs defence early but those moments quickly turned into transition moments that created attacking opportunities and it was a Flynn Willis defensive interception and killer pass that set Josh Heit up for the only goal of the match.

Coach Clint was super proud of the collective effort that has been the team’s trademark all year.

The team can now enjoy the week off and will play BITS or Central in the Grand Final.

It was semi-final time for the U13 Clinton FQPL side and despite their best efforts, the boys went down 2-0 to Cap Coast but not without a fight.

The boys will have another crack at the cherry next weekend when they play Frenchville. Clinton conceded very early in the first half and it only took a small mistake and turnover for Cap Coast to score. But that’s what these games are like, one mistake can prove costly.
It was a good learning moment for the team. Clinton was sharp at times but really weren’t playing the brand of football we have seen this year. Cap Coast were then awarded a penalty not long before half time which they scored. Clinton played better in the second half but couldn’t find the net. As the game went on, Clinton pushed to score to try and get something out of the game but time just ran away from them in the end.

Much credit must go to the team because they never gave up. Player of the match was Eamonn Townsend for some good wing play and looking to combine in the find third.

𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗥 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗦 !

Congratulations to our 𝗨𝟭𝟰/𝟭𝟱 𝗗𝗶𝘃. 𝟭 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘄𝘀 on their fantastic Preliminary final win on Friday night securing their place in the Grand Final.

It certainly was a nail biter with extra time needed to determine the winner. After a scoreless match Clinton found the back of the net once in each half of extra time to secure a hard-fought 2–0 victory.

Rohith Balasundaram slotted home the opening goal before Nixon Lee floated the second goal over United’s Keeper’s head to seal the win.

Coach Stones was very proud of his side with the never say die effort from every player throughout the game ultimately setting the team up for success.

The Chainsaws now play the Central Hawks in Friday nights season decider.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for our 𝗨𝟭𝟮/𝟭𝟯 𝗗𝗶𝘃. 𝟭 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 who went down to BITS Bulls in another super close Preliminary final.

The match was locked at 4–4 after extra time, with goals to Hithesh Balasundaram, Thaniel Zwisler (2) and Xavier Smith and the dreaded penalties were called with BITS taking the win.

Unlucky Crossfires, congratulations on a fantastic season, you should all be very proud of your efforts.

🏆 Clinton FC will be represented in Friday night’s junior Grand Finals by:

🟢 𝗨𝟭𝟮/𝟭𝟯 𝗗𝗶𝘃. 𝟮 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀

🟢 𝗨𝟭𝟰/𝟭𝟱 𝗗𝗶𝘃. 𝟭 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘄𝘀

We’ll post the draw when it is released, but we’d love to see plenty of Clinton supporters get behind both teams and cheer on our young Green Grubs.
