R2 Supports RizeUp at Glendenning Dojo! 💜

Glendenning Dojo is stepping up in a huge way for our Purple Belt Campaign to support RizeUp Australia!

Look at that wall so far! It's filling up fast with thank-you cards representing our students' incredible generosity and commitment to helping families impacted by domestic and family violence rebuild their lives with safety, dignity, and hope.

Thank you to everyone who has worn their purple belts with pride, brought in their gold coin donations, or contributed so far. Small acts of kindness truly go a long way when our community comes together!

Let's keep the momentum going until the end of the campaign! 💪🌟❤️‍🔥🥋 (19 October- 1 November)

Today at our Glendenning Dojo, we were incredibly fortunate to welcome a very special guest — our Founder, Kancho Robert Sullivan, along with Jiba, who made the trip down from the Central Coast to spend the day with us.

Kancho came along to support our Alternate Needs class at 9am, before giving our mainstream students a very special session at 10am.

Watching him teach and connect with the students, and share his knowledge is something we never take for granted. Every time Kancho visits, the students walk away with something special, including our instructors.

His years of experience, his knowledge and the little reminders he gives us about why we teach, why we train and why we continue to do what we do are genuinely invaluable.

We are incredibly grateful that our Founder still takes the time to travel down, put on the Gi, get on the floor with our students and share his experience with us. Those moments mean a great deal, and they’re something our students and instructors will remember for a long time.

Thank you Kancho! It’s always an honour and a pleasure to have you at our humble Glendenning Dojo. 🥋❤️

Hi families,

Just a quick heads-up that the mattress company next door is moving over the next couple of days. There will be moving trucks using many of the parking spaces during this time.

If possible, please park a little further up the parking lot or around the bend of the building when dropping off or collecting your child.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Sensei Vithia first walked through our doors as a 13-year-old student and has grown into an incredible instructor over the past five years.

Her kindness, dedication, and encouragement have touched so many lives, and our kids will miss her so much. As she moves on to her next chapter, we want to thank her for everything she has given to our dojo and wish her nothing but the very best.

While Sensei Vithia will no longer be teaching our Tuesday classes, we’re pleased to welcome Sensei Bles and Sensei Albert who will be taking over and continuing to support our students.

Thank you, Sensei Vithia! You’ll always be part of our dojo family. 💖🥋🥊🤘

In mid-June, several of our Queensland, New South Wales and Victorian senior group volunteered to complete a Homes set-up with our charity partner, RizeUp Australia.

RizeUp provides all the practical items needed for victim-survivors of family and domestic violence to make a fresh start, including furniture and other household items that help transform empty houses into homes.

When each of our GKR teams arrived at their location, they were greeted by a RizeUp driver, an empty house and a truck filled with flatpacks and homewares. The teams set about unloading the truck, assembling the flatpacks, making beds, filling pantries and carefully decorating the space. This included fitting out children’s bedrooms and providing them with the materials needed to start at a new school.

After 4+ hours of work at each location, the transformation from house to home left a lasting memory for all involved. With the knowledge that a family would be entering their newly furnished home in the coming days, each team member took comfort in knowing that they had helped create a new beginning for someone in need.

We are incredibly grateful to RizeUp for the work they do and for the opportunity to be involved in their Homes program. We also appreciate the amazing support shown by all of our students and instructors who participate in the Stop Domestic & Family Violence Purple Belt Campaign. Your involvement means a lot, not only to RizeUp and the families they help, but also to GKR Karate as a whole.

If you would like to volunteer with RizeUp to help setting up Homes, information can be found here https://www.rizeup.com.au/volunteer
