🚨🔥 THE BAY JUST GOT SERIOUS. 🔥🚨

SURANGA LAKMAL IS BACK. 🧡💙🏏

And he’s not just pulling the playing shirt back on.

The former Sri Lankan Test fast bowler and captain returns to the Runaway Bay Cricket Club as a PLAYER & BOWLING COACH.

Let that sink in.

Our bowlers now get the opportunity to learn their craft from someone who has stood at the top of world cricket — someone who knows what it takes to bowl to the best, compete under pressure and perform on the biggest stage.

And look at the coaching group we’re building at The Bay… 👀

🏏 Gareth Roberts — Head Coach
🏏 Johnathan Dalwood — High Performance Batting Coach
🔥 Suranga Lakmal — Bowling Coach & Player

International experience. First-class experience. Elite coaching. One club.

This is bigger than one season.

We’re building an environment where our juniors can see a pathway, our young players can accelerate their development and our senior players are challenged to take their cricket to another level.

We want Runaway Bay to be a place where players come to LEARN. DEVELOP. COMPETE. WIN.

And we’re assembling the people to make it happen.

Suranga already knows what it means to represent the Blue & Orange.

Now he’s back to help develop the next generation of Bay bowlers.

Welcome home, Suranga. 🧡💙

THE BAY IS BUILDING.
THE STANDARD IS RISING.
AND WE’RE ONLY GETTING STARTED. 🔥🏏

🏏💙🧡 THE SAM LOXTON CUP — A CALL TO THE BAY! 🧡💙🏏

This Saturday, it means more.

Runaway Bay. Southport Labrador. Two old rivals. One very special name connecting them.

SAM LOXTON.

This Saturday our Seagulls head into enemy territory to take on the old foe, Southport Labrador, for the Sam Loxton Cup.

Sam wasn't just an Australian Test cricketer and member of Sir Donald Bradman's legendary 1948 Invincibles — he was a great friend of Gold Coast cricket and an Honorary Life Member of both clubs.

At The Bay, Sam spent countless hours coaching our juniors and seniors, sharing his knowledge, his stories and his love of the game.

His message was simple:

PLAY HARD. PLAY FAIR. RESPECT THE GAME.

🔥 NOW IT'S OUR TURN.

Our new-look Bay side, under Head Coach Gareth Roberts and Captain Talha Anis, is pumped, prepared and ready to throw everything they have into Saturday's contest.

But they need YOU.

This is a call to every Bay player, junior, parent, past player, Life Member and supporter:

💙🧡 GET YOUR BLUE & ORANGE ON!

Grab your mates. Grab the family. Get down to Southport and let's FLOOD THE GROUND WITH BLUE AND ORANGE!

Let's make some noise and make sure when our Seagulls look towards the boundary, they see the Bay standing behind them.

This is more than another game.

It's two proud clubs honouring a great man in the best way possible:

Hard cricket. Fair cricket. Sam Loxton cricket.

🏏 THE FIRST CHAPTER OF 2026/27 BEGINS… 🧡💙

Every season has a story.

New challenges. New faces. New opportunities. New moments that haven't been written yet.

And this Saturday, the first chapter of Runaway Bay's 2026/27 season begins. 🐦🏏

For the first time under new Head Coach Gareth Roberts, the Bay Seagulls take the field for two T20 clashes at Sam Loxton Oval.

🕤 Game 1 – 9:30am
🆚 Palm Beach Cricket Club

🕑 Game 2 – 2:00pm
🆚 Southport Labrador

There has been plenty happening behind the scenes.

Gareth has been working hard with the group throughout preseason, introducing a new Bay game plan and setting the standards for the cricket we want to play this summer.

There's a different feel around the group.

New coach. New players. New ideas. And plenty of hope about what this season could become.

We believe we've got an exciting mixture of youth and experience, and under new T20 captain Talha Anis, the boys will get their first opportunity to show exactly what this new-look Bay side can produce.

But this weekend isn't about where the story finishes.

It's simply where it begins.

Two games. One day. A new season. And the first opportunity for Gareth and his Bay Seagulls to make their mark. 🔥

So get down to Sam Loxton Oval, Runaway Bay, grab a spot on the hill and get behind the boys as they walk onto the field for the first time in 2026/27.

The journey starts here.

Let's see where it takes us. 🧡💙

🚨 A HUGE COACHING APPOINTMENT FOR THE BAY 🚨

💙💛 WELCOME JONATHAN DALWOOD – HIGH PERFORMANCE BATTING COACH 🏏🔥

Runaway Bay Cricket Club is incredibly excited to welcome Jonathan Dalwood to The Bay as our High Performance Batting Coach for the 2026/27 season.

And this is much more than another coaching appointment.

This is a statement about where The Bay is heading. 📈

Jonathan has just returned from his second successive year working with Kent County Cricket Team in England, immersed in a high-performance environment alongside first-class cricketers, including current England internationals. 🏴

Last year, Jonathan also worked as a batting coaching consultant with the Wellington Firebirds men's first-class team in New Zealand, again working alongside some of the best batsmen in world cricket. 🇳🇿

Now he's bringing that knowledge to The Bay. 💙💛

Jonathan brings current modern batting knowledge, elite coaching methods and first-class experience, combined with a genuine passion for developing players and helping them reach their full potential.

He will work closely with Head Coach Gareth Roberts as we continue to build a coaching and development program designed to give our players opportunities rarely seen at community cricket level.

Because that's what we're trying to build at Runaway Bay.

🏏 Better coaching.
📈 Better development.
🎯 Better opportunities.
💙 Better cricketers.

From our juniors coming through the pathway to our senior players wanting to take their game to another level, we want every player at The Bay to have the opportunity to improve.

We're not just building teams for this season.

We're building players for the future.

And bringing a coach with current experience inside first-class cricket environments in England and New Zealand to Runaway Bay is another massive step forward.

🔥 First-class experience. Modern coaching. Now at The Bay.

Please join us in giving Jonathan Dalwood a huge Bay welcome! 👏💙💛
