What does your breakfast look like? ๐๐ฑ
One thing I try to think about with breakfast is getting in a good mix of protein AND fibre particularly as we move through perimenopause and menopause.
Protein helps support and maintain muscle, which becomes increasingly important as we get older, especially alongside strength training. ๐ช
Fibre is important too, for gut health, regularity, fullness and overall health.
This is one of my regular breakfasts:
๐ฅฃ Oats
๐ Strawberries & blueberries
๐ฑ Ground flaxseed
๐ป Sunflower seeds
๐ Pepitas
The oats, fruit and seeds all contribute some protein, but theyโre particularly great for adding fibre, healthy fats and plenty of nutrients.
I usually have a plant protein shake alongside my breakfast, and add collagen to my herbal tea. ๐ฟโ๏ธ
Collagen does contribute protein, but I donโt count it as my main protein source for supporting muscle. Thatโs where my protein shake comes in.
I personally donโt love plant protein mixed through my oats ๐ so I have mine separately. My son, on the other hand, mixes WPI straight into his oats and loves it.๐
Thereโs no rule saying your protein has to be in your breakfast. It can simply be with your breakfast.
And you donโt need a โperfectโ breakfast either. Just ask yourself:
Whereโs my protein?
Whereโs my fibre?
โฆis a pretty good place to start. ๐๐
