Intro into my Yogalates classes.

My classes are slow and controlled and are a combination of both Pilates and Yoga.

They're aimed at beginners.

In Pilates, we focus on finding our neutral position, which is important to keep our spine in the right alignment.
For example, if you are lying on your back, you should imagine a small space between your lower back and the floor, which should be just enough to fit your hand or a grape without squashing it. This helps to keep your spine in a neutral position.

In Yoga, we practice long hatha holds or a flowing Vinyasa Sun Salutation. My classes are controlled and slow, but don’t be fooled, we work on your ‘Powerhouse’. This refers to the core muscles of the body, including the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, hips, and buttocks, which are seen as the center of strength and stability for the body. These muscles play a key role in supporting and stabilizing the spine during movements.

In my classes, we also focus on the 5 principles of Pilates, which are Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath, and Flow. Although this may seem like a lot to think about, I will introduce these principles slowly into the flow, and we can work on them together.

My Yin to my Yang!

Sprinting is my passion, it’s where I truly feel at home. The rush of energy, the focus, and the challenge—it’s all part of the experience. But as much as I love pushing my body to its limits, I also understand the importance of balance.

That’s where Pilates/Yoga comes in. Mindful Pilates/Yoga, in particular, is a perfect complement to my weight training routine. It’s a chance to slow down, tune in, and reconnect with myself. Through deep breathing, gentle movement, and focused attention, I find a sense of peace and clarity that helps me recharge and refocus.

I like to think of it as my yin and yang. The weightlifting is my yang, the active, dynamic, and powerful aspect of my fitness routine. And the Pilates/Yoga is my yin, the quiet, reflective, and restorative side. Together, they create a harmonious balance that keeps me grounded and centered.

So, when life gets hectic, and stress starts to build, I know I can turn to my weight training and mindful Pilates/Yoga practice to help me find my calm and regain my focus. They’re my ultimate de-stressors, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Five benefits of Pilates:

1. Improved Core Strength: Pilates targets deep abdominal muscles, as well as the muscles around the spine, resulting in better core strength and stability. This can lead to better posture and reduced risk of back pain.

2. Increased Flexibility: Pilates exercises promote elongation and stretching of muscles, helping to improve flexibility and range of motion in joints. This can enhance overall mobility and reduce the risk of injury.

3. Enhanced Body Awareness: Through focused movements and breath control, Pilates encourages greater mind-body connection and awareness. Clients often report feeling more in tune with their bodies, which can translate to better movement patterns and coordination in daily activities.

4. Stress Reduction: Pilates incorporates mindful breathing techniques and emphasizes relaxation, making it an effective way to reduce stress and promote mental well-being. Regular practice can help clients feel more calm, centered, and energized.

5. Injury Rehabilitation and Prevention: Pilates exercises can be adapted to accommodate various fitness levels and physical limitations, making it suitable for individuals recovering from injuries or managing chronic conditions. By strengthening muscles, improving flexibility, and promoting proper alignment, Pilates can aid in both rehabilitation and injury prevention.
