It was all happening while freediving off the Gold Coast this morning in "whale alley" (the 45m depth area): an awesome 27m visibility; flat as a pancake; and whales, whales and whales.

If only the ocean was this calm - definitely not today with a strong wind warning offshore for the Gold Coast. But a great opportunity for Tina, Layla and Harry to complete all introductory freediving theory and pool under the watchful eye of AIDA Instructor Candidate, Pavel Karkarin (behind the buoy) in the best 5m deep pool in South East Qld!

Our AIDA Instructor Candidates, Pavel Karkarin and Steve Watch, are 2/3 of the way through their AIDA Instructor Course. Today they practiced some pool teaching and successfully completed their performance criteria of Static > 4 mins; dynamic bifins > 90m; and no fins > 50m. They'll be coming to a pool or ocean near you very soon.
Great conditions offshore this morning with trainee Instructor Steve Watch ascending from 40m dive. Water temperature was about 25 degrees and about 17m vertical water visibility. Our boat was in about 42m depth. Check out the glassy conditions on the surface after the dive. Superb!

HPC (High Performance Freediving Coaching) Term 1 PB results (left to right & down) Nancy Luo STA 2:36; Greg Wilson STA 3:53; Elin Frid STA 3:09 & DYNB 75m;Jason Baird STA 4:15; and Craig Smith 4:45 (almost PB). Well done guys. Take your breathhold to the next level with HPC Term 2 starting Tuesday April 21 at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
Its purpose was to attract 16,000 divers annually (that's 300 per week!) and $5m was spent on the project. There WAS a well marked zone with navigational aids and buoys. All gone. One boat mooring line remains. What happened? Where is the Gold Coast diving industry? Extinct?

Freediving Gold Coast welcomes AIDA Instructor Yully Wang and her 3 students on a Deep Dive Day off the Gold Coast yesterday. We also had two freedivers, Brenna and Phoebe, completing their Ocean Freediver course. We had 12m vis and 26 degrees water temp. Great morning of fun diving.
