First met Tommy in NSSA days as a 15yr old & he was wearing an O'NEILL wetsuit so I told JackO'Neill "here comes your 🇺🇸World Champion" so I met with Al Merrick to negotiate his Contract but he wanted US$40,000 per annum & we were paying our Ultimate Teamrider US$1,200 per month so Jack simply said "No" in respect of the Awesome job the🦐 delivered as the O'Neills finest brand Ambassador. So after 10yrs of miserably failing to crack the US market, the 'Curl' found tra toon with this super GOAT of his era. Pic: Tom turned up at the Ma & Pa Bendall on the Sunshine Coast & surprised me AND everybody else there. March 1978 'Stubbies' & Clyde Aikau is staying with Rick & Paul Neilsen's home where I rented a room. Suddenly "I'm outta here Brah!" as he rapidly departs because Eddie is missing off the Hokulea Hawaiian Heritage canoe mission, gifting me this 'old Duke shirt' saying "I don't have one yet, this is Eddie's" suffice to say I had no idea of what had just happened or it's impact on so many. I just found it "straight to the pool room" as a Special Collectible momento of daze gone by in my wonderful Surfing Life🤙🏾 & the Great characters along my journey of Aloha🌺 JN👣

My Surfing journey since 1978: "after only x1 year 1977 Stubbies (a football & Tradies' short Co') were withdrawing as Sponsor due their Snr Execs' inability to deal with the Genius that is Peter Drouyn whom they called 'Mussolini' so I begged Radio4GG to intervene (the 'Board' agreed) inspired by Radio4IP's move into our Gold Coast market.
Bill Bolman then '77 Beach Marshall whom they respected stepped up & the Promotions were assigned to me which caught Jack O'Neills attention & with endorsement from his first Licensee & dear Friend John Arnold, Reno Abellira summonsed me to meet Pat O'Neill with an aim to my taking his job as he to become President, so I flew back so I flew back with him to Santa Cruz CA🇺🇸 for a 5 week trial to see if 'I could cut it' as International Promotions Manager (said Pat) I could & I stayed. Best time of my Life but returned the next year when faced with becoming a US Citizen & my Wife's desire to see family & avoid the temptations I was enjoying & adopting via the 'GO fast Life' of California in the 80's & the silver Ferrari with 'O-TEAM' rego' plates.
