I have been training mainly on the Logan River this year, but still do some solo paddles at Coomera Lake. These paddles are basic mileage, but at this time of year there are plenty of baby Australian Wood Ducks about. Here are a few from last Tuesday morning during a 12 km paddle in Zone 2. ~Andy

Waterbaby Rescue 20/02/2025

Another early morning paddle with Helen Chorley this morning. We launched at 5:29 am (of which I am very proud!!), and explored the canals around the Hope Island Golf Course.

We heard a 'plop' and turned to see a Joey (baby kangaroo) had fallen in the water off a vertical rockwall. There was nowhere for him to swim and climb out.

Helen was quick to jump in and rescue him, while I supervised. Admittedly it did look like she was having a quick cuddle of the little roo!!

Helen -The Pocket Rocket 18/02/2025

Short early morning paddle with elite paddler Helen this morning, before work (9 km only). We launched at 5:44 am!!
Afterwards the traffic going home was bad on the M1, so I diverted to Coomera Lake for another 6 km paddle by myself, followed by coffee and a 'smoky dog' at the Boatshed Brew. A perfect morning...again!

Warm days require early starts. Sue and I started at 5:35am today at Coomera Lake, Gold Coast. Nice conditions with the light and cool westerly land breeze, which dropped off at 7am. 15 km easy.

Tony Downwinding on the Broadwater, 2024 20/01/2025

Many paddlers don't know that you can do downwind paddles in the Southport Broadwater when the Southeastlies or Southerlies get up above 15 knots. This is not out in the ocean, so safe for the Over 65 paddlers, and still a lot of fun!

I asked Tony Brown for some movie footage from the Broadwater, and made a little movie for the oldies. He has done some wild downwinders during very strong winds, but this movie is only about the easy stuff! ~GrAndy
