A little vulnerable share… but I have a feeling a lot of other aerialists quietly live in this headspace too. So it's worth talking about.

The feeling that there’s a clock ticking.
That you should be further ahead.
That your best years in the air are disappearing or already behind you.

I’ve spent the last few years unpacking this a lot.
My definition of success in aerials is changing.
And I think it's healthy for it to constantly change... as we grow, evolve, mature (well some of us 😂) and change.

If this resonates, comment MUSINGS and I’ll send you tomorrow’s Monthly Musings newsletter with more on my thoughts about aerials as an infinite game. 🤍

If you're on the mailing list already - this ones dropping Wednesday July 3rd xx

I’ve been thinking a lot about how easy it is to feel “behind” in aerials… especially when life throws curveballs, your body changes, injuries keep popping up, serious health issues hit you out of nowhere. And all of a sudden things no longer look or feel the way you wish they would.

But the older (and dare I say wiser) I get, the more life experience I gain, the more I realise:
This was never supposed to be a race.

has a beautiful quote that resonate so much with me in regards to this.
📝 "It's not a race. You are not ahead. You are not behind. You are here.
Enjoy it and make the most of it."

I used to think success in aerials meant being the strongest, the best, doing the most impressive skills, always performing, always pushing.

Now success in aerials for me is tied more to building a body, mindset and life that allows me to keep doing this for the long haul. 💪🏽

Aerials is an infinite game. ♾️
And I think there’s something really powerful about learning how to stay in it without constantly feeling like you’re failing, because you’re not "keeping up" or not always doing hard s**t.

You get to a certain stage in life where longevity starts to trump ego.
And I’m actually really happy to be there.

I’m diving deeper into this in June’s Monthly Musings newsletter 🤍

STORY TIME 😅💩
This was my first show back after having my second baby. 🤰🏼
I was 40 and around 10 months postpartum, and I was already feeling a bit nervous about performing in front of a full house… and then the night before the show I realised the reason I’d been feeling SO awful the previous few days was because I actually had gastro. 🫠
Now if you’re a professional performer, you already know: the show generally goes on regardless 😅
But honestly... Between gastro + postpartum pelvic floor recovery, there was a VERY real possibility of this performance becoming memorable for all the wrong reasons 💀💩

SO WHY did I keep an angel roll in the routine?
Because for me, angel roll is a skill that feels incredibly safe and consistent in my body. (That goes for basically anything I will ever put on stage as a professional.)

But I don’t just magically “have” the skill… it’s purely because I’ve broken it down, trained it, strengthened it and understood it so intricately over the years that it’s not a fluke when I hit it. I just know.
It’s understanding the movement so deeply that your body knows exactly what to do, even under pressure.
No hoping, guessing or yeeting and praying 😅 (I needed the praying part for my bowel control).

That’s also a huge part of what I teach inside Angel Roll Reset (the understanding of the skill, not the bowel control, that ain’t my speciality) 👀

If your angel rolls are super inconsistent, or you haven’t started learning but would love to…
I made this course for you!
Comment ANGEL and I’ll send you the info ✨
