🍕🎬 Movie & Pizza Night at the Studio!

One of my favourite things about teaching the Lindy Hop is sharing not just the steps, but the incredible history behind the dance we all love.

Tonight we gathered in the studio for a special appreciation night, celebrating the pioneers who gave us this beautiful dance. We’ll be watching Queen of Swing, the inspiring story of the legendary Norma Miller. Sadly, this wonderful production was never released to mainstream audiences due to a lack of funding, making it quite a rare film. After emailing the production company, I was incredibly fortunate to receive a copy in the mail six months later, and I’ve treasured it ever since.

Alongside Norma’s story, we’ll also be talking about other legends such as Frankie Manning, whose passion, creativity and generosity helped keep the Lindy Hop alive for future generations.

Bringing the sounds of early swing, blues and old New Orleans, this Brisbane-based quintet pairs polished arrangements with steady, dancer-friendly rhythms—perfect for Lindy Hop, Balboa and Blues.

Led by vocalist and washboard player Paula Hackney (Melody Graves), the band features some of Brisbane’s favourite jazz musicians:

We have some pretty dapper students here at Swing On In! 😎

One of them is Lachlan, who always makes the effort every single time he walks into the room. Looking sharp is one thing… but it’s the effort he puts into his dancing that’s really paying off.

Over the past few months we’ve watched his confidence, technique and musicality grow, and it’s been an absolute pleasure to see. Progress like this doesn’t happen by accident, it comes from showing up, listening, practising and having a great attitude.

Here’s a little class recap with my main man, Ray, followed by the spotlight on Lachlan doing what he does best.
