Having a new baby is usually a time of joy, wonder and excitement. But, for some mums it can also be a time of big challenge, anxiety and grief. It is estimated that 1 in 5 of us mums will suffer postnatal depression.
So many of us struggle in silence with the uncertainty and difficulties of motherhood. Asking for help sometimes feels like we are failing especially as social media makes it all look so easy and we end up can spiralling into a dark place of not feeling good enough. And that’s why we need to support our sisters to ask if they need help, to ask R U OK?
It’s ‘R U OK?Day' a reminder to regularly check in on friends, family and colleagues and start a genuine conversation about mental health.

See that woman standing in the mirror looking back at you? It's time to check her out girl.
Consider the care and love that she deserves and remind her of how important she is. It's time to move her up the priority list and do things that will support her.
In a recent survey* of over 11,000 women 43% said their physical health had declined since 2020, 46% reported their mental health declining in the same 2 year period and around 58% had missed some form of appointment or check-up (including 8% who missed their mammograms).
It's Women's Health Week this week and given the stats above, we're kicking off by encouraging you to get checked out. Book in the appointments you've been putting off - whether it's a physical check up or a psychological check up, it's time to go and do it, because you are worth the effort and it's okay for you to feel good.
