The horse world is bloody difficult, but when I see a photo like this, I’m reminded that if 8 year old me could see it, she’d be beside herself knowing that this is her life 20 years later… 🥲

Redemption after one of my biggest wtf moments 🤦🏻♀️
This is the reality of training and competing - it’s full of hiccups, things don’t always go to plan, but the best we can do is keep our cool, learn from it and try again.
So proud of Poppy for turning it around and producing an improved 2.2 with all four feet staying in the arena 🥇
And of my rider .emjay for her two wins today!! 🥇🥇

Beautiful Poppy last weekend in Southport 💗
It certainly isn’t easy every day (🫠), but I’m so proud of this mare and how much she has improved the past year. She earned some solid scores in both of her Novice tests, as well as a 3rd place in Novice 2.2 🥉
A huge thank you to for a great day, and to all the volunteers and sponsors for making it happen.
Big thanks also to everyone involved with this little pocket rocket, making sure she’s healthy, happy and well cared for 🫶🏻

Saints Water 💦 aka ‘Otis’
Slowly developing balance, strength and suppleness, one step at a time. We’re far from showing fancy movements or jumping a big fence but the foundations are becoming more established, the body feels stronger, the mind is curious and happy. In it for the long haul 🫶🏻
Regular (weekly 🫣) bodywork is not a magic fix – it’s about monitoring their muscles, identifying areas of tension, helping their soft tissues recover after exercise, and keeping them as comfortable and mobile as possible alongside appropriate training, management and care.
Horses are naturally on the forehand (which makes sense when they should spend at least 13 hours a day grazing with their heads down), and I find that the neck, shoulders and thoracic sling often carry a lot of tension in many horses.
Poppy is a mare who tends to shorten her neck, curl behind the contact, become heavy in the hand, and develop short, choppy strides. It’s easy to imagine how sore and tight she could become with poor training or management.
To get the most of a training and above all, for a horse that feels good in her body and is happy to try, she gets massaged very regularly as part of her overall management. The horse before the rest ❤️
