Mālō le soifua ma le lagi e mamā Gold Coast ☀️
What a year it has been for many, and for many of our families here on the GC.
A quick update from our team.
We have pushed pause on the 2025 season.
With such a busy calendar year for our members navigating school, school sports, rep teams, club games, touch, tag, state cups and so many other activities our players and families have had to manoeuvre this year. Adding to that, an additional sporting event to an already robust schedule is something we did not want to do. We’ve looked at the next 12 months and what that will look like from our organisations point of view, and we’ve taken so many learnings from feedback from members and feel we have made the right decision. We registered and equipped over 227 players in 2024 from under 6 to open men’s, and it was a beautiful site to see with so many of our members representing our city. Especially playing in the QLD Nga Hau e Wha Maori Rugby League carnival 🎡. A great day and beautifully run event.
Looking ahead we have been working on some other areas to serve our families and assist with the costs of living and also the change in family circumstances. We we will be launching our “Keys 🔑 to the City” driving 🚘 program. This program will be linked to assist families and covering the costs of their family member gaining their Learner drivers licenses and also the barrier that many of our families have with gaining hours and having driving hours logged. We are excited and can’t wait to share this initiative with our community and also announce our partners in this space. In saying this, footy for us is not done. 2026 will be geared up with providing our young Samoan and non Samoan players opportunities to showcase their talents to the world 🌎 and meet those in positions to take their careers further. 🙏🏼
More details to come but first, we would like to thank our community partners in ETC - Employment and Training Pacific Sports Management and MI BEST LIFE for all their love and support for our organisation and our members in the community. Special thank you as well to Queensland Tonga Rugby League for their invite to participate at this year’s Sika Manu cup. It was a big decision for us to not be there, especially after our participation at last year’s amazing Tonga Day celebrations. We won’t be participating but we will be there to support and give thanks. We wish you all nothing but the best for this year’s event, and we wish all our pacific island brothers and sisters from all the different associations in Brisbane and the Gold coast good fortune in all your respective up and coming competitions.
