Back in town now after 3 weeks away, with the dreaded airplane flu. But here are a few pics of the trip starting with Milan then Como.

Helter Skelter. Paul McCartney concert Gold Coast. According to the dictionary a tall spiral slide winding around a tower or haste and confusion. Watch it full screen. Volume up.

With a bit of interest in restored surfboards, here is one I did a while ago. Originally I thought it was too far gone with the bottom full of brown stress lines, but the owner said no hurry. So, when I had a coupe of weeks spare it was skin off, repaired back to original shape, glassed, new fin made and air brushed, glossed and polished. Now in the hands of a very stoked owner.

Nothing clears the mind like surf and a good head rinse. This one at Burleigh Heads. Had a similar one only bigger, about 10' at Winkypop in the early 70's, pushed me straight through the middle of my board. Found the two piece way down the reef. Photos by Dick Hoole

Next step (one of a few hundred) was cutting the rocker template for the balsa board. The weight of one stringer before chambering was 650gms, then after cutting, 360gms, nearly half it's original weight. Next to trim some logs. In between this and doing Surfboard Shapers Workshops, I've shaped and delivered a trophy board for the Pro-Am at Burleigh Golf Club. Busy, busy.

Just around the corner from where I'm shaping at Burleigh Board Makers, I found a small timber furniture factory when I was chasing some cedar for a small trophy project. I was talking to Mal who owns Designs in Timber when I noticed, stacked high up near the roof, some long logs that looked like balsa. After some negotiation, I drove away with five 3 meter logs. So I now have a big project in front of me. Probably take me a few months of trimming, adding rocker, cutting in the chambers and so on. So this is the first post and I'll drop another post in every now and then when I have something to show. Ive done a graphic of what I have planned to help me visualize the end result. Balsa with 7 cedar stringers, 9'6 x 22 1/2" x 3 1/4" Pintail with flyers, and cedar/balsa tail block, timber glass on single fin. Let the journey begin.

Finished off and delivered an EPS timber sprayed deck longboard then headed up to the Sunshine Coast for the 50th Pa and Ma Bendall Memorial. 50 years since I won the inaugural comp and great to catch up with a lot of friends. One of them was showing me a board that he owned and I thought I recognized it from a photo I had in '72. The group photo, third from left was a resin pour bottom originally owned by Kim Hancock (Hancock Guitars). 52 years old and still in great surfable condition. The young blond haired grommet front right with the dark sweatshirt also had his name on that beautiful piece of hardware. Tony Eltherington 1978 along with a few names you might recognize. Handed over my 1970 embroidered WindanSea badge for the new club house. Old surfing buddie from the 60's in Sydney. Thanks for the great weekend away, felt a whole lot better after the car incident. Ah, the ups and downs of life.
