❤️ A little piece of boating history…

Last week we had a lovely visit from Sid, who is in his 80s, he brought something rather special in to give to Wally.

This old oil can originally belonged to Sid’s grandfather, who received it with his new Mercury 90hp outboard many, many years ago.

What we found particularly lovely was that when Sid decided it was time to pass it on, he thought of Wally & wanted him to have it. ❤️

To be trusted with something that has been part of someone’s family & boating history for so long is pretty special.

Wally was very touched by the gesture, this little piece of history has definitely found a permanent home at Boating Scene. ⚓️

Thanks Sid. We’ll treasure it. ❤️

🎣 This is an outboard… not a fishing reel! 😳

This one came into the workshop with water in the gearcase.

The culprit? A length of fishing line wrapped around the prop shaft… and we mean a LOT of it! Just look how far it stretches! 😬

Fishing line can sneak past the prop shaft seals, allowing water into the gearbox. Left unchecked, that can lead to expensive repairs
