As the season comes to an end, and for some teams it's the final round of footy tomorrow, I want to say a massive thank you to all of our coaches, runners, first aiders, and managers.

Without your dedication, commitment, and the countless hours you give to our kids, we simply wouldn't have teams. You sacrifice your time, your weekends, and so much more to help our players grow—not just as footballers, but as young people. Everything you do is appreciated more than words can say.

I also want to say a very special thank you to our incredible committee. The amount of work you all do behind the scenes is truly above and beyond. So much of what you do goes unseen, but without your commitment, passion, and tireless efforts, this club simply wouldn't be where it is today. Thank you for everything you do for the Hinchinbrook Hornets. You are the foundation that keeps this club moving forward, and we are all incredibly grateful.

To all of our players, tomorrow is another chance to wear that Hinchinbrook Hornets JRLFC jersey with pride. Play hard, play fair, back your teammates, and most importantly, enjoy every second. The scoreboard won't define your season—your effort, your character, and your heart will.

To our parents, families, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters, thank you for standing beside this club every step of the way. You are the heartbeat of the Hornets, and together we've built something truly special.

As your President, I couldn't be prouder of this club. Every player, every volunteer, every family, every committee member, and every supporter has played a part in making this season one to remember.

So tomorrow, when you pull on that maroon and navy jersey, remember this...

You aren't just wearing a football jersey. You're wearing the pride of a club, the belief of your coaches, the sacrifices of your families, and the spirit of every Hornet who has worn these colours before you.

Leave nothing in the sheds. Give everything you've got for the teammate beside you. Play with courage, play with heart, and when that final siren sounds, walk off that field knowing you gave absolutely everything for the badge on your chest.

No matter the result, if you do that, you'll always be winners in my eyes.

Stand tall. Wear our colours with pride. Make memories that will last a lifetime.

The season may end, but the Hornets spirit never does. It lives on in every player who dares to dream, every volunteer who gives without asking, every parent who never misses a game, and every child who proudly pulls on our colours. That's what makes this club different. That's what makes us family.

family will proudly join clubs across the Newcastle & Hunter Rugby League community in honouring Ali.

In support of the NHRL tribute, we are asking all of our teams to retire the No. 3 jersey this weekend as a mark of respect for Ali, her family, friends, teammates and everyone affected by her passing.

This is a simple but powerful gesture that reflects what our rugby league community is all about, coming together in times of loss, showing compassion, and honouring one of our own.

We ask all coaches and managers to please support this tribute with your teams this weekend.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Ali’s family, friends, teammates, the Southlakes Roosters, and everyone mourning her loss.

Being part of a rugby league team is about much more than what you do on the field. Every one of you represents your family, your teammates, your coaches, our club, and the game of rugby league.

There are a few expectations that every player must understand:

Racism has absolutely no place in our club or our game. Treat everyone with respect, regardless of their background, culture, religion, or nationality. One racist comment can hurt someone deeply and damage the reputation of our team and club.
Watch your language. Swearing, abusing officials, opponents, teammates, or spectators is not acceptable. Respect is one of the most important values in rugby league.
Use social media wisely. Before you post, comment, or share something, ask yourself: “Would I be happy for my coach, my parents, or my club to see this?” Social media should be used to encourage others, celebrate achievements, and support your teammates—not to bully, criticise, or spread negativity.

Remember, what you say online is just as important as what you say on the field. Negative posts, offensive language, or disrespectful behaviour can damage your reputation, the reputation of your team, and bring the game of rugby league into disrepute.

We want to be known as a club that shows respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, and pride. Every decision you make reflects on all of us.

Let’s be the team that people remember for the right reasons—our effort, our respect, and the way we treat others.

With the 2026 season almost coming to an end, Hinchinbrook Hornets JRLFC will be holding our annual "Hornets Blue For You Round" during our final regular season home game on Saturday, 1st August at Winnall Reserve.

This special day is dedicated to raising awareness around mental health, starting important conversations, supporting one another and raising funds for Beyond Blue.
Mental health affects so many people in our community, whether directly or indirectly, and we want to remind everyone that it's okay to not be okay, and nobody has to face their struggles alone.
