Financial year has me feeling a little reflective 🤪
Around this time last year, I decided I was ready to grow the business again. I was terrified, but I bought a fresh notebook (a fresh notebook changed lives if you didn’t know 🤭🙂‍↕️) and wrote on the very first page:
“A ship is always safe at the shore, but that is not what it’s made for.”
And so Hair Nerd 3.0 began.
I hired a mentor, , to audit my business, challenge my thinking, and teach me how to become a better manager. Asking for help turned out to be one of the best business decisions I’ve ever made.
Then I asked the universe ✨ to send me a team member.
A couple of weeks later, I got a call from .
Now he’s a certified Nerd (and getting promoted this week 🤭), but back then I had the little devil on my shoulder whispering that I wasn’t capable of being a manager or mentor.
I’m so glad I didn’t listen.
Quite selfishly, mentoring Cody has become one of the most rewarding parts of my career. Watching him sharpen his skills, build a loyal clientele, and grow into the stylist he is today has made me incredibly proud ☺️ of him, of myself, and of what Hair Nerd is becoming. 💫
So somehow, sitting here doing EOFY admin actually feels… rewarding this year.
I’m proud to have built a business that’s both people-first and profitable. It’s a privilege to have the responsibility of paying someone else’s wage, and something I’ll never take for granted.
Here’s to another financial year of leaving the shore, backing ourselves, and taking courageous leaps forward.
Now the question is… who will the universe send us as the next Nerd? 🤓✂️🎨
