Stones Corner Infinity

Hello everyone,

We apologise for the inconvenience, but all junior classes this afternoon (7/11/22) are cancelled due to illness.

For the Adult students there will be an open mat on at 6pm.

Classes will resume as normal on Tuesday (8/11/22).

Happy Halloween!!! This last Saturday we had an absolute blast with the Junior classes dressing up for Halloween, playing spooky games and handing out "candy" (lolly bags) at the end as Treats so we didn't get Tricked!! Heaps of fun, looking forward to next year!!!

Last weekend we had two of our students, Cormac and Sebastian, compete at the Brisbane Open. Both boys went up a weight class and faced off against some extremely experienced grappling competitors, showing determination and skill to each find themselves on the podium for bronze and silver medals respectively. We are proud of their efforts, impressed by their courage in going against bigger and tougher opponents, and we are stoked at their continuing development that they test and measure when they compete like this. Well done, boys!

Today marks the addition of a new morning class centred around fitness and movement. While all of our classes use some "animal" based movement line drills as a warm up, the fact that these movements are incredibly effective in unlocking the strength, flexibility, and mobility of the body particularly as it pertains to Jiu Jitsu means we have dedicated a significant portion of the class to these movements specifically. And just when we think we're done, we finish off the session with rounds of HIIT style Kettlebell and "functional fitness" type exercises. Lots of sweat involved and with summer around the corner, lots more is forecast.

With our Junior Classes growing in size so quickly, it's time for a bit of a timetable change to make sure everyone is getting the most out of their training!

This timetable will start on the 19th of September.

In the mornings, we spend 5 minutes at the end of class to write down what we learnt in the lesson. This is an extension of the Stones Corner Infinity ethos of asking our students what they found most important to remember from the class. By having our students mentally work through the technique to remember the details that they think are most important, they are visualising the technique, which strengthens the neural pathways to create a more robust memory of the technique.

By writing down these details in a sequential manner, our morning students not only have this benefit of visualisation, but they also have a record of what they are learning. It doesn't matter so much what is written, as often this requires a personal point of view, which can include interpretation and language that might differ from our peers, it is the visualisation process that is important.

There is little over a week left to register for the next Junior In-House Comp! This is a great opportunity for all Infinity Juniors to compete, whether they've done it before or its their first comp ever!

Round Robin Format (Allowing for maximum amount of experience).

IBJJF Rules with Points and No Advantages. Please note that for our 4-5 year old divisions we have elected to remove submissions with an emphasis on points to ensure the safety of your lil ones.

Gi Only Event.

Mixed Male/Female Divisons for Children 15 years and under.

Ribbons to be given out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place.

A year ago today this gentleman walked through the doors of Stones Corner Infinity for his first morning session with me. Since that morning, other than a small handful of mornings where either one or both of us (or family members) were sick, he has shown up rain, hail or shine to the mats for a dose of jiu jitsu. During this time many others have come and gone, but Ben remains consistent and it shows. He's been ranked with stripe at a recent grading and continues to get better and better, it is a pleasure being the one to not only witness the journey, but I'm also proud to be a part of it, while learning from it as well.

Today, during a roll with another student, he encapsulated some of what jiu jitsu is in a short quote, "I might be getting beat, but I'm still winning."

Awesome having you on board, Ben, looking forward to many more years of this!

Another week, another comp and still just as proud!
On Sunday more of our crew stepped onto the competition mats and represented us all so well.
Congratulations guys, a huge effort and a few more medals for Infinity Stones Corner!
