My absolute favourite part is being witness to people gaining trust in their bodies. My trainer philosophy is that if I teach you enough about learning to balance wellness you shouldn’t need me long long term however the relationships we create usually are. I think because of that people stay. Also because science is forever changing and so is life; and I’ll always be there to support when it does.

Back squats are my most hated movement. They still are. I find a lot of the time in the gym we don’t like movements we don’t feel we are good at, I don’t feel good at squats. They make me feel weak and they outline my mobility issues.
Plus side..I’ve been slowly working on my mobility again. (Study and life had real gotten in the way) and I did them. They were light and my hips screamed.
I can’t workout whether to give my self a free pass on this movement… or keep working on them. Squats are an integral movement of life, if you can’t squat comfortably you won’t be able to get off the floor when you’re 70. This is pretty motivating. .wellness

I used to be able to lift a lot more. But if I’m being honest my priorities are different now. I use exercise for mental health these days. I don’t train at 100% of my capacity. I tried to many times but I get burnt out.. very burnt out. It’s not easy pulling myself back, I go in thinking I can still lift 100kg.. I definitely can’t. I suppose I could work toward it if I wanted. But I don’t really want to. Slowly increasing my training capacity is where I will find longevity in my body. Consistency is key 🤍

This is what we do. The babe and I went out for cocktails Saturday afternoon. Now because I knew there would be no way we’d go grocery shopping for the week we went on Saturday morning instead of our usual Sunday morning. Sounds simple but we had to push to find time for it, it very easily could have gone by the way side. BUT! We got it done and I planned extra meals that contain healthy fats to help with the inflammation our bodies would have from said cocktails. 😂 smart eh! 😎 follow me for more fitness tips 😂😂

Please prioritise movement as you age. I promise you as soon as you stop moving that’s it.. it’s a downward slope. That sounds bleak 😕 but it’s the truth. Also let the elderly in your life walk to the shops, let them help lift things (make sure they do it safely) encourage walking stairs. (Again safely) they need it. And if they’ve lost their balance over the years, get a good coach to help restore it.

I often used to get asked.. how do you spot men that lift more than you weigh… to this I say Pssh! If I can’t spot you, you shouldn’t be lifting it.😉 PSA: Brad never asked me this, we were probably talking about ultra athletes in this photo… this seems to be where our rest convos lead. .forest

In my 10 years as a PT I can tell you that teaching people how to balance wellness and life commitments is where I get the best results in my business. If you’re finding you keep repeating the same pattern. Join a gym.. slog it out for a month or two and then something happens that interrupts your pattern and the next thing you know months have gone by and you’re back to square one… you probably need a good coach.
