SATURDAY SWEAT: THE DICE DECIDES

Grab one die—or use a random number generator on your phone.

Roll once to choose your movement:

1 — Sit-to-stands or squats
2 — Wall, bench or floor push-ups
3 — Step-ups or walking lunges
4 — A brisk walk or short run
5 — Backpack deadlifts
6 — Your choice

Roll again to choose the number:

1 = 5 repetitions
2 = 10 repetitions
3 = 15 repetitions
4 = 20 repetitions
5 = 30 seconds
6 = One minute

Complete ten rolls in total.

If you’re doing it with the family, take turns rolling and let each person choose a movement version that suits them.

There’s no prescribed weight, pace or level of difficulty.

The die decides what comes next. You decide how to make it work for you.

Ten rolls. A little movement. Saturday sorted.

Adults need community too.

As we get older, it can become surprisingly difficult to make new friends.

Work gets busy. Children take over the calendar. Old friendships change. We can live in the same town for years and still feel disconnected from the people around us.

That’s one reason shared activity matters.

A gym, sporting club, walking group or community organisation gives people somewhere to belong.

You begin by turning up for the activity.

Then somebody learns your name.

Someone notices when you’re missing.

You share a laugh, struggle through something together and gradually become part of the place.

Physical activity is valuable—but sometimes the people beside you become just as important as the workout itself.

If you’ve been feeling isolated, don’t underestimate what can begin by simply joining something.

“I’ve left it too late.”

We hear versions of this from people in their forties, fifties, sixties and beyond.

They haven’t exercised in years. Their body feels stiffer. They’ve gained weight. They can’t do what they once could, so they assume the opportunity has passed.

It hasn’t.

You may not begin from the same place you would have at 25—and pretending otherwise wouldn’t be helpful.

But you can still become stronger than you are today.

You can improve your fitness, balance and confidence.

You can learn new movements, build healthier habits and make everyday tasks feel easier.

Your starting point might be walking for ten minutes, standing from a chair or lifting a light weight from the floor.

That isn’t embarrassing.

The bigger risk is allowing another five or ten years to pass because you believed it was already too late.

You haven’t missed your chance.

You’re simply starting from here.

Convenience food isn’t automatically unhealthy.

Sometimes convenience is exactly what allows a busy person to eat reasonably well.

You don’t need to prepare every meal from scratch. Keep a few easy building blocks available:

PROTEIN

Tinned tuna, cooked chicken, eggs, Greek yoghurt, lean deli meat, baked beans or a protein shake.

CARBOHYDRATES

Microwave rice, wraps, wholegrain bread, oats, fruit or potatoes.

FIBRE AND COLOUR

Frozen vegetables, bagged salad, canned beans, apples, bananas, carrots or whatever produce your household will actually eat.

Put one item from each group together and you have the beginning of a useful meal.

Chicken, microwave rice and frozen vegetables.

Eggs on wholegrain toast with fruit.

Tuna, salad and a wrap.

Greek yoghurt, oats and berries.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be impressive.

It needs to be practical enough that you can still do it when you’re tired, busy and short on time.

Your first week of training shouldn’t be designed to prove how unfit you are.

It should help you feel comfortable enough to return for the second week.

A good beginning looks like:

• Learning a few basic movements
• Using manageable weights
• Moving at a pace you can control
• Asking plenty of questions
• Finishing challenged—but not destroyed

You don’t need to test your limits on day one.

We would much rather see you leave thinking, “I could have done a little more,” than do so much that you can barely move for four days and never want to come back.

Fitness is built through months and years of repeated effort.

Your first session only needs to teach you something, challenge you appropriately and give you a reason to return.

That’s exactly what our Learn CrossFit Fundamentals program is designed to do.

Our next group begins Tuesday 22 September. If you’ve been curious but unsure where to start, send us a message and have a conversation with us.

**Gunnedah — we’re looking for 10 people who haven’t exercised in a while.**

Not CrossFitters.

Not people who can run 5km.

Not people who already go to the gym five days a week.

We’re talking about the people who keep saying…

**“I really need to do something.”**

Maybe you've put on a bit of weight.

Maybe you get puffed doing things that used to be easy.

Maybe work, kids and life have taken priority for the last 5 or 10 years.

Maybe you've driven past our gym 100 times and thought:

**“CrossFit? Absolutely not. I’d die.” 😂**

You're actually the person we're looking for.

On **Tuesday 13 October**, we're starting a new beginner Fundamentals group at CrossFit Gunnedah.

For 14 days, we'll teach you CrossFit completely from scratch.

No experience.

No fitness test to get in.

No expectation that you can lift heavy weights, run fast, do pull-ups or keep up with anyone else.

**Just start.**

We'll meet you wherever you're at.

It's **6 coached sessions over 14 days for $99**, and the goal isn't to turn you into a CrossFit athlete in two weeks.

It's to prove to you that **you can do this.**

So here's our challenge…

If you've got a friend, partner, workmate, mum, dad, brother or sister who's been saying **“I really need to start doing something”**…

**Tag them below.**

And if you're reading this thinking we're talking about you…

We probably are.

A broken routine is not the same as failure.

This matters for anyone working shifts, raising children or living a week that rarely follows the same pattern twice.

You might train three times one week and only once the next.

You might exercise on your days off but struggle during a run of twelve-hour shifts.

You might eat well all day and then find yourself standing at the servo at 9 pm because everything went sideways.

That doesn’t mean you’re incapable of being consistent.

Consistency doesn’t require every day to look identical.

It means continuing to make useful decisions whenever the opportunity appears.

Train when you can.
Walk when you can’t.
Prepare food when life allows it.
Make the best available choice when it doesn’t.

Your health doesn’t require a perfect streak.

It requires you to keep returning.

This Father’s Day, here’s something worth remembering:

Looking after your health isn’t only about living longer.

It’s about being able to participate in the life happening around you.

Getting onto the floor with your children—and back up again.

Kicking the footy.

Going camping.

Helping them move house one day.

Being present, capable and involved as they grow older.

As dads, it’s easy to say we’re too busy providing for everyone else to spend any time looking after ourselves.

I’ve used that excuse too.

But caring for your health isn’t time taken away from your family.

It’s an investment in the years and experiences you hope to share with them.

You don’t need to become a professional athlete.

Walk. Lift something. Play. Find movement you enjoy and allow your children to see you making your health matter.

Happy Father’s Day to the dads, stepdads, grandfathers and father figures across Gunnedah.

SATURDAY SWEAT: YOU GO, I GO

Grab a partner and choose three movements:

ONE FOR YOUR LEGS
Squats, step-ups or walking lunges

ONE FOR YOUR UPPER BODY
Wall push-ups, bench push-ups or regular push-ups

ONE FOR YOUR HEART AND LUNGS
A brisk walk, short run, bike or skipping

Partner one moves for 30 seconds while partner two rests and encourages.

Swap places, then move to the next exercise.

Complete four rounds.

No partner? Work for 30 seconds and rest for 30 seconds.

The movements don’t need to match. An adult might complete push-ups while a child does a bear crawl. One person might run while another walks quickly.

Adjust it so both people are challenged at their own level.

Twelve minutes of work—and it’s always easier with someone beside you.

**“I’d love to try CrossFit… I just need to get a bit fitter first.”**

We hear this one all the time.

But getting fit before starting CrossFit is a bit like saying you need to get stronger before you start lifting weights.

**Getting fitter is the reason you start.**

Our Fundamentals program is specifically designed for beginners.

We meet you where you're at, teach you what you need to know, and build from there.

No fitness test to pass.

No minimum ability.

No expectation that you should already know what you're doing.

Just come as you are.
