This book was packed with practical lessons, but there were two that really stood out and stick with me til I finished the book.

Such a simple change in language, but it completely changes how your brain responds.

A problem feels heavy. It feels like something blocking your path.

A challenge feels like something you can step up to, solve and grow through.

Same situation. Different mindset.

โœˆ๏ธ ๐Ÿ. ๐…๐ž๐š๐ซ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ญ๐ž๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐›๐ข๐ ๐ ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐›๐ž๐ญ๐ฐ๐ž๐ž๐ง ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฅ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž ๐ฐ๐ž ๐ฐ๐š๐ง๐ญ.

One of my favourite reminders from the book was this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

โ€œDo the thing you fear, and the death of fear is certain.โ€

Fear shrinks when we move toward it.

Whether itโ€™s starting the businessโ€ฆ
Having the difficult conversationโ€ฆ
Walking into the gym for the first timeโ€ฆ
Putting yourself out thereโ€ฆ
Or chasing a goal that feels just out of reachโ€ฆ

๐‚๐จ๐ง๐Ÿ๐ข๐๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐๐จ๐ž๐ฌ๐งโ€™๐ญ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐›๐ž๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.

๐ˆ๐ญ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ฌ ๐›๐ž๐œ๐š๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.

This book reminded me that success isnโ€™t usually about having a perfect plan. Itโ€™s about deciding where you want to go, adjusting along the way, and refusing to let fear be your pilot.

โญโญโญโญโญ Definitely one Iโ€™d recommend if youโ€™re interested in personal growth, leadership or business. I also loved his book Eat That Frog ๐Ÿธ too!

People often see the building, the community, the awards and the growth.

What they donโ€™t see are the conversations, mistakes, mentors and mindset shifts that happened behind the scenes.

Here are four lessons that have shaped the way I lead.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ ๐‹๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง #๐Ÿ โ€“ Something has to give.

Years ago I apologised to my mother-in-law because there was clean washing sitting on the couch.

We jokingly called it โ€œthe laundrobe.โ€

She smiled and said, โ€œSomethingโ€™s got to give when youโ€™re trying to build something so big.โ€

That one sentence changed my perspective.

The washing was clean. It just wasnโ€™t put away.

Sometimes good enough really is good enough.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ ๐‹๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง #๐Ÿ โ€“ Find peopleโ€™s superpowers.

Early on, I thought everyone needed to be good at everything.

I couldnโ€™t have been more wrong.

Great teams arenโ€™t built by creating clones.

Theyโ€™re built by helping people discover what theyโ€™re naturally brilliant at.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ ๐‹๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง #๐Ÿ‘ โ€“ Discipline beats motivation.

When life became busy, it wasnโ€™t motivation that carried me.

It was simple habits.

Simple training.

Simple meals.

Simple routines.

Consistency will outperform perfection every time.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ ๐‹๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง #๐Ÿ’ โ€“ Leadership is about service.

One lesson that has stayed with me since Martin Rooneyโ€™s Coaching Greatness is that leadership isnโ€™t about pretending life is easy.

There will always be hard days.

Looking after yourself is part of being a great leader, but when itโ€™s time to lead, your focus shifts to the people youโ€™re there to serve.

The best leaders donโ€™t lead from ego.

They lead from service.

Building a business has taught me a lot about businessโ€ฆ

But itโ€™s taught me even more about becoming a better human.

This quote has stuck with me ever since I had the privilege of learning from Steve over a decade ago during his visit to Australia.

Steve is an exercise physiologist, a coral tip black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and one of those rare educators who completely changes the way you think about movement. His philosophy was simpleโ€ฆ

๐— ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜†๐˜€ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ. Heโ€™s the same person who taught me that a muscle up is just a demonstration of strength and mobility combined.

That lesson has stayed with me ever since.

Yesterday I took our daytime crew through a Stretchโ€™nโ€™Restore class where we explored more shoulder and hip mobility using mobilisations, ๐—ฃ๐—”๐—œ๐—Ÿ๐˜€ & ๐—ฅ๐—”๐—œ๐—Ÿ๐˜€, and end-range strength.

This morning, many of those same drills became part of our Kettlebell Flow class warm-up before we even touched heavier movements.

Nothing was random.

Everything had a purpose.

In a few months itโ€™ll be around ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ ๐˜†๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜€ since I completed my Advanced Kettlebell Certification. Since then Iโ€™ve continued learning through my Rehab Trainer certifications, Master Functional Trainer certification, Animal Flow education and studying the fascial system.

The more I learnโ€ฆ

The less I chase exercises.

The more I chase better movement.

Because when people move well, they become stronger.

When they become stronger, they become more resilient.

And thatโ€™s exactly what weโ€™re trying to build every day at The Real Body Movement. ๐Ÿ’š

This little girl had a story written for her before she understood what that meant.

As a toddler I was extremely overweight due to medication I was taking for kidney disease

My parents were told there was a high chance I would end up on dialysis as a young adult

My dad carried that fear quietly. He worried about what my future would look like

Years later when I told him I was pregnant with our first daughter, he went silent.

I thought he wasnโ€™t excited.

Years later I discovered the truthโ€ฆ

He was scared

He had spent my whole life being told my kidneys could fail, & he worried pregnancy might be the thing that brought it all back.

That was a story written from fear & love.

But there were other stories I carried tooโ€ฆ

The little girl in this photo was called โ€œfatโ€ by a boy at school.

But it stayed with me for years

Then there was another belief I grew up hearing

โ€œChildren should be seen & not heardโ€

A saying normal for that generationโ€ฆ but one I didnโ€™t realise followed me into adulthood.

Because the funny thing is

I learnt to sing
I learnt organ
I learnt guitar

But I never performed because the thought of being seen terrified me.

Decades later, as an adult relearning guitar, that same fear came back.

And I finally asked myself

Was this really who I was, or just a story Iโ€™d been carrying?

Because sometimes the beliefs we have about ourselves arenโ€™t even ours.

Sometimes they started as a sentence
A comment
A moment

But hereโ€™s what I want you to remember

Not because the fear disappeared

But because I stopped letting an old story write my next chapter

Join us as we connect with Flowists from around the world and take part in a global Animal Flow experience. This is your chance to come together with fellow Animal Flow clients and instructors, move as one, and be part of something much bigger than our own little tribe. You donโ€™t have to be a member of The Real Body Movement.

A quick heads up though ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ

This is not an Animal Flow learning class and it isnโ€™t suitable for complete beginners.

The flow will already be created and shared globally, so this session is designed for Flowists who have already built some confidence with the basics at least.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ You should have completed quite a few Beginner Animal Flow classes
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ Preference given to those who have also attended some All Levels sessions
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ You should feel comfortable with Animal Flow fundamentals and have been flowing for a little while
