Shinkyokushin Damashii Dojo had two entrants in this Year's Shinkyokushin Australian Open and they both did the Dojo and Victoria proud.

Sempai Bree made a very strong entrance in the Women's Open Heavy weight taking the title in convincing fashion against strong opposition. This was followed up by a knockout win to secure the women's open grand championship against a very skillful middle weight Champion. The women's championship went to an extension.

Kathy started the day well by taking a second place in the novice Kata division and topped that off in the afternoon by taking out the women's novice heavy weight title against a very determined opponent.

Shihan Dot, Shihan Steve and the rest of Tamashii join me in celebrating their inspirational win.

Yesterday Sydney hosted the National Championship and Damashii competitors travelled to Sydney to compete and officiate. Our two fighters Kath and Bree showed what their hard work and dedication can do by taking out both their divisions. Kath won the intermediate by Waza-ari, and Bree won the heavy weight by a powerful kick to the head. Bree then competed for the overall champion and was successful. Well done to both and all competitors.

Not long now… the WKO National Championship will be on in Sydney. Damashii have competitors and officials travelling to Sydney for the event. Good luck to all Damashii and Victorian competitors. OSU!

Greetings Damashii fans...

Last Tuesday the Damashii Dojo held a junior grading and I thought I could hear the Kiais all the way in Ballarat from Haddon!
Well done to all participants, good to see new white belts grading. As you can see from the photos, they worked hard with good standards for junior belts. OSU!

The Shinkyokushin mid-year grading at the Bellarine Martial Arts Centre on 28 June 2026 was a large event with many Shinkyokushin dojos attending.

Well done to all students who attended, the grading was grueling and long. All students equipped themselves with strong karateka spirit.

A special thank you to all supporters and judges who made the event possible.

Congratulations to Damashii Dojo members - Elise and Martin who successfully graded; and to all other attendees that made the effort to better and challenge themselves by attempting the grading.

Three sleeps... till the Kyokushin\Shinkyokushin Victorian Open.

On Sunday 17th May 2026 the Open will be held at St Andrews primary Catholic School, 110 Greaves St, North Werribee.
Doors open at 9am and competition starts at 10am. All welcome, please come and support Damashii Dojo at this great event.

MKA Tournament - Geelong 19/04/26

Damsahii Dojo attended the Kyokushin MKA tournament in Geelong last weekend.

In true Tamashii (Spirit) they put in an amazing effort. When I think about the decision to challenge yourself by competing in a full contact tournament or the next grading I hear Shihan Peter VOLKE in the back of my mind - [It's not whether you win or lose, it is about the mindset to commit to improvement and growth. Either way win/lose you will grow and learn] - sorry Shihan I'm paraphrasing you.

We had three competitors - Bree Bree Kath Patterson and Kath's daughter Poppy who competed in her first tournament.

Bree came out firing and looked like she was going to win until she was disqualified due to a misunderstanding.

Kath continued her dominance and won her division.

Poppy competed with 11 other juniors in her division and came third - amazing effort.

Well done everyone, OSU.
