We absolutely love supporting our local athletes at Cove Cobras.
Last night’s session focused on functional movements designed to simulate the demands of on-field performance, with every exercise planned with purpose.
As always, the athletes were an absolute hoot, and we’re proud to support them as they head into finals.
Last night’s professional development session explored our approach to class planning, communication, coaching and the overall member experience, centred around one simple question: What experience do we want to create for every person who walks through our doors, and how do we want them to feel when they leave?
One of the things that makes our team so special is the depth of knowledge and experience each instructor brings. From physiotherapy and elite sport to dance and strength training, every instructor brings a unique perspective, and seeing that knowledge shared so openly with one another is something pretty special.
As a team, we’re committed to continually learning, evolving and investing in our craft because we believe great coaching is about more than what we teach. It’s about how we teach, why we teach, and the experience we create for every person who walks through our doors.

An amazing evening of professional development, collaboration and connection.
We spent the evening learning from one another, sharing ideas and discussing how we can continue creating the best possible experience for you in every class.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have such a knowledgeable, passionate and genuine team of instructors. While we each bring something unique, we all share the same goal—to create a space where you feel welcomed, challenged, supported and encouraged every time you walk through our doors.
Thank you to this incredible team for another inspiring evening
Layers: the gift that keeps on giving
Why do we add layers to certain movements? The simplest answer is there isn’t just one reason. If we listed them all you would be reading a full essay.
In short layering is a programming tool where each progression serves a purpose based on the overall objective of a movement.
Developing foundations / refining technique
Changing the demands of the movement
Build confidence
Introducing more complex movements
Allowing you to work at a level that’s right for your body on the day
Layers can also be added into transitions into entirely different movement that complements the overall objective of a class (ie movement balance, muscle balance, contraction type, and other variables)
Also that’s Jess one of our amazing instructors in this reel. She’s on the schedule today if you’d like to book a class with her
have you been wanting to level up in your classes? ❤️🔥💪
in this video, we have unilateral front work - the same exercise with just the slightest tweaks to challenge the stability and upper body control!
at the top we have:
- low to high kneel (wide base of support + we’re using the legs to assist the upper body)
at the bottom we have:
- 90/90 kneeling (single leg/narrow base of support + were static through the glutes, so there’s no momentum from the lower body to assist)
- a bonus layer! The front leg comes into a calf rise (again, reducing the base of support)
if you’re feeling ready to level up, book into an intermediate/advanced reformer class through the EA app! If you have any questions, let us know ☺️
things that are quietly changing the game in your Pilates classes… 👀
1: listening to and applying your instructors form cues will help you get the most out of your workout (ps we love when you ask questions!) 💥
2: unfortunately, only applying form corrections at the start of the exercise won’t be enough - check in throughout the exercise and re-adjust where you need to (we’ll always be here to help) 💪
3: choosing to take the challenge options in class can be daunting, lower the stakes by just trying it out once or twice and building your confidence up slowly - you might surprise yourself! 🔥
4: breathing is severely underrated! Using controlled breaths to inform your movement pattern not only enhances your ability to move, it can help you release tension where you don’t need to be holding it and send that energy to parts of the body that need it 🧘
5: at the end of the session, it can be tempting to start thinking about what’s next for the day - we encourage you to stay in the moment a little longer because the benefits of Esteem Active don’t stop with the physical. The impact that moving your body has on your mindset can drastically shift your outlook - take a moment to appreciate yourself and your effort 🤍
