Sometimes it’s easy to forget that our little dojo here in Harden is part of something much bigger.

Across all of our Kumiai Ryu locations, we are now 1,822 members strong.

That’s 1,822 people choosing to make discipline, respect and hard work part of their week.

And what we love most about that number?

Those 1,822 people range in age from just 3 years old right through to 81 🥰

Different ages.
Different backgrounds.
Different reasons for starting.

But all stepping onto the floor, learning something new, challenging themselves and becoming a little stronger along the way.

That’s a pretty incredible community.

And here at Harden, we’re proud to be one small part of it.

Every time one of our students walks through our doors, they’re not just joining a local dojo, they’re becoming part of 37 years of Kumiai Ryu history, knowledge, friendships and legacy.

1,822 people. One Kumiai Ryu family 💕

37 years ago, O-Hanshi Kevin Blundell started something that would become so much more than a martial arts system.

He built a community.
He shared knowledge.
He created a place where people could learn, grow, challenge themselves and, most importantly, believe in themselves.

And 37 years later, that legacy is still very much alive.

Here at Kumiai Ryu Harden, we feel incredibly proud to be a small part of that story.

We know O-Hanshi Kevin would be looking down with an enormous amount of pride at what Kumiai Ryu has become and especially at the incredible instructors who continue to share his knowledge, values and passion with the next generation.

His legacy isn't simply something we remember.

It lives on.

It lives in the instructors who continue to teach.
It lives in the students who keep turning up and having a go.
It lives in the confidence built, the friendships formed and the lessons learned both on and off the floor.

And now it's our turn to help carry it forward.

To honour what came before us.
To continue building what comes next.
And to make sure that 37 years from now, the story is still being written.

Happy 37th Anniversary, Kumiai Ryu ❤️

We are incredibly proud to be part of the legacy and even more excited to see where the next chapter takes us.

Osu!

SOMETIMES IT’S EASIER TO TRY SOMETHING NEW WITH A FRIEND.

Walking into somewhere new for the first time can feel a little daunting.

You might wonder if you’ll be good enough.
You might worry you’ll look silly.
You might not know anyone.

But you know what makes it a whole lot easier?

Bring a friend 😃

You can learn together, have a laugh together, encourage each other and maybe even discover something you both absolutely love!

And that’s one of the things we love about partner work at the dojo. You’re not training alone, you’re learning alongside people who are there to support you, challenge you and help you grow.

So, if you’ve been thinking about giving martial arts or Muay Thai a try but haven’t quite taken that first step, grab a mate and come give it a go together!

We’d love to welcome you both to the dojo and show you what we’re all about.
Contact us to book your complimentary trial for you AND your friend.

Sometimes all it takes to try something new is having someone beside you.

One of the things we really encourage in our dojo is learning how to work WITH your training partner, not against them.

When we’re doing partner work, we expect our students to work to the level of intensity their partner is comfortable with.

That means communicating.
It means paying attention.
And it means understanding that there is absolutely no shame in saying, “Can you lighten up the contact a little?”
In fact, we encourage it.

The goal of training isn’t to hurt the person standing opposite you.
The goal is to learn, improve, challenge each other and become better martial artists together.

Hurting your training partner doesn’t make you tougher or a better fighter. It just means your partner can't train properly and eventually, you’ve got *one less person to train with.

We want our students to be able to trust the person they’re working with, knowing that they can push themselves, make mistakes, learn new skills and have a good hard session without worrying about being unnecessarily smashed.

There’s a time and a place for testing yourself at higher intensity.
But when we’re training together, we look after our training partners.
Because when your partner gets better, you get better too 😉

There’s something pretty awesome about watching our little Ninjas work together.

Pads up. Eyes focused. Feet moving. And plenty of encouragement from their training partner along the way.

Learning that training isn’t always about being the best in the room. Sometimes it’s about helping your partner become better too.

A new week. A new opportunity to learn something, challenge yourself and have a crack!

🥋 Happy Father’s Day ❤️

Today we celebrate all the dads, grandfathers, stepdads, father figures and special men who show up, support us, guide us and help shape the people we become.

The men who teach us strength isn’t just about being strong.

It’s about patience.
It’s about courage.
It’s about leading by example.
It’s about picking us up when we fall and encouraging us to get back up and try again.

To all the amazing men in our Kumiai Ryu family and beyond, thank you for everything you do, every single day.

Wishing you all a very Happy Father’s Day.

Start where you are.
Work with what you’ve got.
Keep showing up. 🥋

Every kick, every technique, every class is another little step forward.

It’s not about being perfect.
It’s about learning, improving, supporting each other and having the courage to keep trying.

Because confidence isn’t something you’re given.
It’s something you build.

Happy Monday!

There is one very special moment in grading when a martial artist does something they are normally taught never to do…....

They place their belt on the floor.

Not because it has lost its value. Quite the opposite.

That belt represents every lesson, every challenge, every mistake, every achievement and every hour spent on the mat getting to where they are today.

But at the end of grading, students are asked to place their old belt in front of them and, when called forward to receive their new belt, step over it.

It’s a simple gesture, but one filled with meaning.

A reminder that while we should always be proud of where we have been, we must also be willing to leave that chapter behind and take the next step forward.

Because the journey in martial arts never really ends.

Every new belt is not the destination.
It’s simply the beginning of the next chapter, and perhaps that’s one of the most beautiful lessons martial arts can teach us. Honour how far you’ve come, then keep moving forward 💕
