Nooroo Garden, Mt Wilson was established in 1880. Nooroo is a cold climate garden The house was built from local pit-sawn timber and is typical of its period.

Nooroo, an aboriginal word meaning 'shady place' was built and planted in 1880 by William Hay whose original work gives the garden its air of maturity. The summer house was built in a matching style in 1980 to commemorate the centenary of Nooroo. The Valder family owned the property from 1917 to 1992 and during their time, an old tennis court was converted into the world famous wisteria garden. Th

Dear Garden Lovers,

Unfortunately, we have not had good news from the Blue Mountains City Council and it looks as though Mount Wilson Road will remain closed (to anyone who does not have a permit) until after Spring 2026.

We understand that some groups (e.g for weddings/tours/bus/ groups) have been able to obtain a permit from BMCC to access Mount Wilson.

If you have a group of 8+ people and would like to organise private /semi-private visits to Nooroo Garden during Spring 2026, please contact us.

Best wishes Nooroo
