Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club is the northern most club of the Hunter branch. We are always looking for new active members to join our patrols.

Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Lifesaving Club is the northern most club in the Hunter Branch. Our hard working volunteers patrol the beach between September and the April school holidays. You don't have to be a super swimmer, we have specialist First Aid and Life Support roles that are beach based. For the adrenalin junkie there are jet-ski's & Inflatable Rescue Boats known as IRB's or rubber duckies. There are also many opportunities to hone your skills and compete against other clubs, Australia-wide & internationally, in events such as beach flags, sprints, surf swim, board paddling, surf ski, iron man as well as a host of relay events. For the 5 -14's we run a junior program known as Nippers. The children learn invaluable beach & surf skills that will assist in helping them move through to our senior ranks and completed their Bronze Medallion Award. Surf Competition continues to be an area of high interest. Since becoming an active club in this area of Surf Lifesaving competition, involvement in this team event has continued with TGHNSLSC being represented by both male and females crews in the Under 19, 23, Reserve and Masters divisions, competing at carnivals up and down the East Coast. If you're at all interested in this area of competition, please don't hesitate to contact us or drop in to the Surf Club during the season to give it a go. We are currently seeking interested businesses to come on board as sponsors. This sponsorship will raise the profile of your organisation in the community and give you an invaluable association with one of this country's largest and most identifiable volunteer organisations. Calling all kids aged between 5 and 14 to come and join our Nippers program!!

Nippers is about:
- Learning water safety skills,
- Surf awareness, like how to recognise a rip,
- Building confidence in the surf,
- Joining in some competition,
- Making some friends, and
- Most importantly…having some fun on your local beach!!

Registrations are now open!!

First nippers day: Sunday 18th October at 9am sharp at Bennett’s Beach.

Each nipper needs to complete a compulsory pool proficiency. Once registered, please attend the Tea Gardens pool from 10am to midday on either the:
Sunday 11th October or
Saturday 17th October.

If you’re keen to be a life saver and volunteer your time with us but swimming isn’t your strong point, then this course is for you!! We would love your eyes and ears on the sand side to help keep our beach safe as a radio operator.

Bronze Medallion (BM) Course 🌊

Training commencing: 03/10/2026

Closing date to register: 23/09/2026

Location: TGHNSLSC

Time: 9:00am – 2:30pm – future training dates and times will be discussed during this induction training session.

The SLSA Bronze Medallion provides members with skills and knowledge related to workplace safety, radio operations, surf awareness, aquatic rescue operations, resuscitation, emergency care, communication, teamwork, spinal management and patrol operations.
Members who hold this award may patrol in the role of an entry-level lifesaver on patrol and as water safety personnel for SLS events.

Entry Requirements:
• Financial Member
• Minimum Age of 15 years
• Complete an unaided swim of 400m in 9 minutes or less (goggles and masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25m, or over a measured open water course which will be observed before participating in any aquatic training.

Course duration:
A minimum of 6 training days. This may be completed during 2-3 hour sessions over several evenings and weekends or through a series of full-day sessions.

The SLSA Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) provides members with skills and knowledge related to workplace safety, radio operations, surf awareness, aquatic rescue operations and resuscitation.
Members who hold this award can patrol in the role of a lifesaving cadet and as water safety personnel for SLS events.

We would love you to come and join our dedicated team!!
A surf lifesaver means keeping people safe on our beautiful beach, making new friends and having fun while volunteering your time to support and give back to our community.

Our education team is working hard and have set dates for upcoming training:
Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) for anybody 13 years to adult and Bronze Medallion (BM) for anybody 15 years to adult - training will commence from Saturday 3rd of October.

If eyes on the beach and helping out on the sand side are more your thing then we offer:
First Aid Certificate- Saturday 26th September.
Radio Certificate - training day is Saturday 3rd of October.
