Hawthorn Boorondara Cricket Club (HBCC) proudly announces the appointment of Rob Tongue as the inaugural Head Coach, Neil Gray as the Skills and Performance Coach and Michael Yole as Development Coach. These appointments mark an exciting new chapter for the club as it aims to continue its rich tradition of excellence in cricket.

Rob Tongue, a revered figure in Hawthorn cricket circles, brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game. Recognized as one of Hawthorn's greatest all-rounders, Rob's legacy as a stylish right-hand bat and gifted pace bowler precedes him. With a career spanning three decades, Rob has tirelessly contributed to the Hawks' success as a player and coach. His outstanding achievements, including multiple premierships and individual accolades, underscore his commitment to the club's ethos of excellence.Commenting on his appointment, Rob Tongue said, "It is a tremendous honor to be entrusted with the role of Head Coach at Hawthorn Boorondara Cricket Club. I am deeply committed to establishing a proud legacy of success and nurturing the talent of our players."

Joining Rob is Neil Gray, a highly accomplished coach with a distinguished track record spanning both New Zealand and Australia. With notable achievements such as being the senior Assistant in the Camberwell Magpies most recent Club Championship and winning two Women’s Premier titles and a club Champion as the Head Coach at EMP in Victorian Women’s Premier cricket. Neil has proven his ability to nurture talent and foster a winning culture.His tenure as Spin Bowling Coach for the Victorian Women's State Side and his role as a Specialist Coach/Analyst for Renegades WBBL underscore his expertise in skill development and tactical analysis.

Michael in his role as development coach will couple his playing background of over 200 games with his professional background of fitness and personal training to make sure the players are not only ready to perform mentally but also physically. Michael will also drive the energy and club culture on training nights with his enthusiastic and positive attitude both with his own skills and improving everyone else’s!

Graeme Yole, the newly appointed President of HBCC, expressed his enthusiasm for the new coaching lineup, stating, "We are thrilled to have Rob, Neil and Michael lead our senior coaching staff. Their passion for the game, coupled with their proven track record of success, will undoubtedly inspire our players to reach new heights."Under the guidance of these coaches, Hawthorn Boorondara Cricket Club looks forward to a bright future filled with success both on and off the field.

Not sure there was a more suitable way to have the final HCC prizegiving before exciting new beginnings. A new Hall of Fame Member, 3 new Life Members, 1 Premiership Acknowledgement, Countless individual award winners and VIBES. Hawthorn Cricket Club and Boroondara Cricket Club are excited to announce that their club members have approved amalgamation of the clubs and formation of Hawthorn Boroondara Cricket Club (HBCC). HBCC will commence competition in season 2024/25. GO HAWKS.

Our final nominee for the Tony Tongue Club Person of the year, . Not content with the monumental task of just being the First Eleven captain, Rob is also the council Liason, manages all the grounds, sits on the Senior committee and even stepped up to be acting Chairman at the back end of the year. You can see in the picture, nice broad shoulders we are so grateful for! So you know the nominees, Ollie, Neil, Tanay and Rob! Our third nominee for the Tony Tongue Club Person of the year, . Tanay did any job that was asked of him this year! Keep wicket, bowl, key partnership with the bat, coach a junior session, jump behind the canteen. You name it, Tanay was happy to help! Our second nominee for the Tony Tongue Club Person of the year, . Most people will know Neil as the Men’s Senior Club Coach, but he also helps out on both the senior and junior committees, takes all the photographs you see on the clubs socials, helped organise the Junior Presentation night and managed the U10 program this year. Will that be enough to beat Ollie and the two yet to be named nominees, regardless we thank Neil for all he has done around the club this year!
