VALE Alan Rogerson — a true gentleman, affectionately known as “Mr Heathmont”.
Alan was held in the highest esteem, not only within the club, but throughout the wider football community. His character, commitment and generosity earned the respect of all who knew him. He gave lasting meaning to the words, “Heathmont is a family club.” For Alan, that was more than a saying—it reflected the way he lived and the spirit he helped build around the club.
Alan came to Heathmont in the early 1960s and remained deeply involved well into the 1970s. From the beginning, he gave generously of his time, energy and leadership, becoming an enduring presence in the life of the club. From 1964 to 1967, Alan served as captain-coach of the senior side, leading by example both on and off the field. He later coached the reserves in the 1970s, continuing to share his experience and invest in the players and the club’s future.
Throughout his playing career, Alan competed in the ruck. He was a wonderful competitor —determined, dependable and always prepared to give his all. He was a proud member of the First 18 1969 runner-up side, one of many chapters in a football story that became inseparable from Heathmont.
Alan’s contribution extended far beyond match day. Soon after joining the club, he became part of the committee. He served as vice-president for many years and as club secretary in the mid-1970s.
He immersed himself in every aspect of club life and was instrumental in having the original clubrooms built at H.E. Parker Reserve in the 1960s. That achievement stands as a lasting reminder of his vision, hard work and devotion to the Heathmont community.
Alan’s legacy lives on in the club he helped shape, in the people he guided and in the family spirit he championed. He will be remembered with gratitude, admiration and great affection. We extend our sincere condolences to Margaret, Sandra, Karen, Wendy and Jennifer and to their families.
A Service will be held to Celebrate the Life of Alan at the Victoria Policy Academy, 1 View Mount Road, Glen Waverley on Monday October 19, at 11am.
