This month's Fraser Coast blog takes readers beneath the surface of the Great Sandy Strait to explore one of Hervey Bay’s most unusual and successful experiments — an artificial reef built from old barges, car bodies and concrete.

It has quietly transformed an empty seabed into a thriving marine habitat.

In June 2025 completed his Freediver cert. On one of his dives his wedding ring decided to stay in the ocean, Pic 1. Soon after he decided to get a tattoo in the ring finger that will never fall off, Pic 2. March 2026 I took a Padi Scuba refresher to the same location. One of the Divers was Cameron’s sister-law whilst exploring the site we came across a beautiful octopus, as I was mesmerised by the octopus I missed the shinny circle in the sand. Another diver collected it. We discussed how amazing that would be if it was Cameron’s ring. Few messages later, yep you guessed it, It was! Pic 3 🍀
