So many parents are struggling just like you.😞
Learning to manage anxiety 😬 is a normal part of childhood and the help they get along the way will make all the difference.🥰
When the adults around them are calm, confident and encouraging they will find the confidence to come out of their shell.

At Shobukan Martial Arts we are here to help!

Confidence doesn’t suddenly appear.
It’s built through small wins, encouragement and having the courage to keep trying. For some kids, it starts with simply giving something a go.
Then they achieve something they weren’t sure they could do.

You see the smile. They try again.

And little by little, something starts to change.

Parents begin to notice a difference in their child’s confidence in the short space of just a few weeks.

They’re more willing to participate.
More willing to try something new.
More comfortable making mistakes and having another go.

And they leave class smiling, proud of what they’ve achieved and eager to come back and accomplish the next thing.

That’s what we want every child to experience in our classes.

Because confidence isn’t built by simply telling a child to "be confident.”

It’s built by giving them experiences that prove to themselves: “I can do this.”⭐

🌍🥋 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - GOOD LUCK JORGE! 🥋🌍

A huge congratulations and best of luck to Jorge Martin Teramoto as he prepares to make his debut on the world stage at the 14th World Karate Championships for Cadets, Juniors & U21, taking place from 14–18 October in Bielsko-Biała, Poland 🇵🇱.

Jorge, we are extremely proud of you and the work you have put in to earn this opportunity. Every session, every challenge has brought you to this moment.

Now it’s time to back yourself. Believe in the athlete you have become, know that you are worthy and capable of competing at this level, and take the same intensity, determination and focus that you have shown in training onto the world stage.

We would also like to wish Sensei Mike, who will be representing Australia as a National Coach for the World Championship team and Sensei Dion, who will be representing Australia as the Technical Commission advisor.

🥋 Confidence doesn’t always arrive before they begin.

Sometimes it starts with one punch.
One smile.
One moment when they realise: “I can do this.”

At Shobukan, our instructors break each skill into small, achievable steps and give children the personal encouragement they need along the way.

There is no pressure to be the best in the room. Progress is measured against their own development—helping them build:

✅ Confidence
✅ Focus and coordination
✅ Self-discipline
✅ Resilience
✅ Pride in their achievements

Every small success becomes proof that they are more capable than they thought.

Give your child the opportunity to discover what they can achieve.

You don’t build a shy child’s confidence by telling them to “be confident”.

You give them opportunities to discover that they can handle more than they thought.

-Hold your guard up.
-Try the technique.
-Kick a little higher.
-Work with a partner.
-Have another go when you don’t get it right the first time.

To an adult, these can look like small moments.

To a child, they’re evidence.

“I was nervous, but I did it.”

“That was hard, but I handled it.”

“I didn’t think I could do that.”

And then we give them another challenge.

And another.

Until one day, the child who once hesitated starts stepping forward without being asked.

That’s confidence.

It isn’t something we can simply give a child with encouraging words.

We help them build it by giving them repeated opportunities to prove to themselves what they’re capable of.

That’s one of the most powerful things martial arts can give a child. 🥋

🥳HAPPY FATHERS DAY WEEKEND🥳
From our Shobukan Family to yours, we hope everyone had a wonderful weekend celebrating fathers day.
We had a such great participation this year in our 👨👩👧Parents on the mat day.
Our students work so hard and they loved bringing their parents into class to share what they've been learning. 🥋

The one thing shy kids need that team sports never give them.

Most parents try a group sport first. AFL. Soccer. Whatever is on at the time.

Their child comes home quieter than when they left.

It is not the sport's fault. It is the format. Thirty kids, one ball, no one calling your child's name.

A shy child in a crowd does not come out of their shell. They shrink further into it.

Shy kids do not need more group time. They need someone to notice them specifically.

At Shobukan the first session is one on one. Not a trial class. Not a sit-and-watch. A session where the instructor knows your child's name before the hour is up.

Individual attention is not a bonus. It is the whole point.

Book the first session at the link below.

https://shobukan.com.au/our-programs/kids-martial-arts/

We see it every term. A child pulled from one group activity and put in another.

Same format, same result.

Has your child tried something where they were actually the focus?

Confidence in karate starts with small steps: learning a stance, practising a technique, trying again after mistakes.
That same confidence can help young people stand tall when faced with bullying.
Karate teaches students to believe in themselves, use their voice and know they are not alone. 🙌

Good luck to Nikolina Pushnick as she represents Australia at the 2026 Thailand Open in Bangkok!

Nikolina will take to the tatami on 15 August, competing in the Junior Kumite division.

A fantastic opportunity to compete on the international stage and gain valuable experience. We’re incredibly proud.

Good luck Nikolina — enjoy the experience and leave it all on the tatami! 👊🔥
