If you’re constantly hungry while trying to lose weight, the problem may not be your willpower. It’s likely your plate!

One of the most common messages that blindsides women during and beyond menopause is that weight loss simply means eating less.

Smaller portions. Fewer calories. Ignore the hunger.

But hunger is powerful and relying on willpower to fight it every day is rarely a SUCCESSFUL long term strategy.

That’s why one of the first things I teach my Dietflex clients is to Prioritise Protein.

Protein is generally the most satiating macronutrient, helping us feel fuller after eating. It also becomes increasingly important as we age because adequate protein, alongside resistance exercise, helps us maintain precious muscle mass.

This week's Recipe of the Week, Bok Choy & Steak Salad with Olive Dressing is a great example.

🥩 Beef provides high quality protein and haem iron, the form of iron our bodies absorb particularly efficiently. It also provides vitamin B12 and zinc.

🥬 Bok choy provides vitamin C, vitamin K, folate and other micronutrients for relatively few kilojoules.

🫒 Olives and olive oil provide predominantly monounsaturated fats, while mushrooms, capsicum, garlic and lemon bring flavour and additional nutrients.
And importantly, this is a REAL meal. Not 3 lettuce leaves with a tiny piece of chicken masquerading as lunch.

At Dietflex, we don't ask, “How little can you eat?”
We ask better questions:
What keeps you satisfied?
How much protein does your body need?
What is your individual tolerance to carbohydrate?
And could you realistically eat this way for years, not weeks?

Because reaching your goal weight shouldn't require spending your life hungry.

It requires understanding your body and having the recipes, planning, support and accountability to turn that knowledge into everyday habits.

🥩 Would you make this one?

What if the foods you think you need to give up are the very foods you need to learn how to reinvent?

One of the biggest ways we get blindsided by traditional weight loss advice is being told to simply eat less of everything we enjoy.

For women navigating menopause and beyond, that often leads to a familiar cycle:
Restrict. Lose weight. Get tired of restricting. Return to old habits. Regain the weight.

That isn’t my definition of sustainable weight loss.

This week’s Dietflex Recipe of the Week, Mushroom & Bacon “Risotto”, demonstrates a different approach.

Instead of traditional rice, we use cauliflower rice.
Why? Not because rice is “bad”.

But because this simple swap substantially changes the carbohydrate content of the meal, while still giving you the warmth and satisfaction of a risotto style dinner.

🥦 Cauliflower provides fibre, vitamin C and folate while adding volume for relatively few kilojoules.

🍄 Mushrooms provide B group vitamins and minerals and add that wonderful savoury flavour.

🥓 Bacon and parmesan contribute protein and plenty of flavour, although they're also higher in sodium and saturated fat, so portion and frequency still matter.

And this is where Dietflex is different.

I don't teach my clients to fear carbohydrates. I teach them to understand their individual tolerance to carbohydrate.

Think about the sun. One person can tolerate 30 minutes without a problem, while another may burn in 10.
Same sun. Different tolerance.

Our response to food isn't identical either.

And during menopause, when body composition and energy needs can change, blindly following the eating plan that worked 20 years ago may no longer produce the same result.

Sustainable weight loss is about having the knowledge, recipes, planning skills, support and accountability to make better choices consistently, without feeling as though your life is permanently “on a diet”.

Because reaching your goal weight is only half the achievement.

Knowing how to stay there is the real transformation.

Would you try cauliflower instead of rice in your risotto? YES or NO? 👇

I have a question for supermarkets: why isn’t there a “WEIGHT MANAGEMENT” sign hanging over the vegetable aisle?

Or the lean meat, fish and eggs? Walk down the supplement aisle and suddenly “weight management” is everywhere, shakes, bars, powders and high protein products.

But let’s be real here, a label doesn’t manage your weight.
Yes, protein matters. Research shows higher protein meals increases satiety and suppress hunger related signals. That can make managing energy intake easier.

But protein doesn’t make calories disappear. And what about fibre?

Australian recommendations are around 25g/day for women, yet fibre rarely gets the marketing fanfare protein does. Vegetables, fruit and whole grains bring fibre, volume, micronutrients and lower energy density, the decidedly unsexy things that can make a diet more filling and sustainable.

Recently, a client told me she was spending $500 a month on supplements to replace what she wasn’t getting from food.
Why? She was eating one meal a day.

Think about that. We’ve reached a point where people are buying nutrients back in bottles because they’ve removed the foods that supplied them in the first place.

Meal replacements can absolutely have a place. Research shows they can produce meaningful weight loss, particularly as part of a structured, supported program.

But here’s a thought. . . Maybe we need to stop asking, “Which weight loss product should I buy?”

And start asking . . .“What does my everyday diet look like when the shake, bar and supplement are gone?”

Because sustainable weight management isn't found under a supermarket sign. It’s built in the habits you can still be doing years from now.

If your weight loss dinner leaves you hungry two hours later, it may not be the right dinner.

One of the most common health messages that can blindside women during and beyond menopause is simply:

Eat less.” But eating less isn’t necessarily the same as eating better.

As we age, preserving muscle becomes increasingly important, which is one reason I place such a strong emphasis on rioritising protein, with my clients.

This week’s Recipe of the Week, Lemon Basil Prawns, is a perfect example of how simple that can be.

🍤 Prawns are an excellent source of high-quality protein and provide nutrients including vitamin B12, selenium, iodine and zinc.

🫒 Extra virgin olive oil provides predominantly monounsaturated fats, while lemon, basil, parsley, garlic and Dijon mustard create loads of flavour without needing a sugary bottled sauce.

🥦 Serve the prawns with a generous salad or steamed non starchy vegetables and you have a simple, protein focused meal.

And look at the cooking time…Just minutes on the BBQ or grill. That matters more than we sometimes realise.

Because you can have the “perfect” nutrition plan on paper, but if it requires complicated meals every night, it becomes very difficult to sustain.

This is something I've learned from coaching people over many years:

Knowledge tells you what to eat, but systems help you keep eating that way.

Recipes. Planning. Preparation. Support. And, importantly, accountability.

At Dietflex, I don't believe everyone should eat the same amount of carbohydrate. We each have an individual carbohydrate tolerance, just as we have different tolerances to the sun.

The aim isn't to fear food. It's to understand your body well enough to make choices you can sustain long after you've reached your goal weight.

BBQ, grill or oven, how would you cook yours?

If you’ve given up on losing weight, Tracy’s story is for you.

There comes a point when many women stop trying.

Not because they don’t care, or they lack discipline. But because after years of diets, losing and regaining weight, they start to believe nothing will work anymore.

Fourteen weeks ago, Tracy could have believed that too.

Today:
✨ 10.7 kg lighter
✨ 9 cm gone from her waist
✨ 7 cm from her hips
✨ 30 cm lost overall, the length of a school ruler

But the numbers aren't the part that matters most.

Tracy is experiencing significantly less joint pain. She has more energy to enjoy life with her grandchildren. And she’s rediscovered a part of her wardrobe she thought she’d left behind.

She didn’t suddenly develop more willpower. She learned how to eat for her body, including understanding her individual tolerance to carbohydrate and with support, structure and accountability to make it sustainable.

So, if you’ve quietly decided, “Maybe weight loss just isn’t possible for me anymore…”

Don’t give up on your body yet.

Your next 14 weeks could look very different, if you are ready?

Message me “READY” and let’s talk.

“I love bread, so I could never lose weight.” I hear this more often than you might think.

But what if the problem isn’t bread itself?

What if the real issue is that we’ve been blindsided by an all or nothing approach to carbohydrates?

For years, we’ve bounced between two messages:
“Carbs are essential.” Then…“Carbs make you fat and bloated”

Neither recognises something I believe is far more important:
Your tolerance to carbohydrate is individual.

At Dietflex, I compare it to our tolerance to the Australian sun. Some people can tolerate more exposure than others. The goal isn’t necessarily to eliminate carbohydrates, it’s to discover the amount that works for your body, your metabolism and your goals.

And that brings me to this week’s Low Carb Bread.

This isn't simply ordinary bread with a “healthy” label attached.
🌻 Almond meal, linseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds and psyllium husk provide fibre, healthy unsaturated fats and a range of micronutrients.

🥣 Cottage cheese and Greek yoghurt add protein, making this quite different nutritionally from a traditional loaf made predominantly from refined flour.

🌱 Psyllium, linseeds and seeds provide fibre, which can support digestive health and help make a meal more satisfying.

For women during and beyond menopause, I want us to move away from thinking:
“What foods am I no longer allowed to eat?”

And start asking:
“How can I eat the foods I enjoy in a way that works for my body?”

Because if your weight loss strategy requires you to give up everything you love, what happens when you reach your goal weight?

You go back to “normal”.
I’d rather teach you how to create a new normal you can actually maintain.

This Low Carb Bread is simple, satisfying and doesn't taste like something from a weight loss program.

And yes, you can still eat bread and lose weight.

The important part is understanding which bread, how much, what you eat with it, and your individual carbohydrate tolerance.

Who is a bread lover? 🍞 Would you try making this one?
