Thank you to the Hobart Greyhound Racing Club for the opportunity to come along on Thursday night, meet the community and hear directly from those involved.

It was great to listen, ask questions and better understand first-hand the challenges being faced, and the people whose livelihoods and lives are connected to it.

I understand the greyhound community has extended an open invitation to all state politicians to come along, see the industry first-hand and ask the tough questions, yet many have not taken up that opportunity.

I encourage them to do so.

Whatever your position, decisions about the future of greyhounds should be informed by first-hand engagement with the people involved, not made from a distance.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with us and share their experiences.

The GCA Denise Fysh Award is presented each year to recognise an individual who has made a significant and lasting contribution to greyhound racing.

This year’s honour has been awarded to respected Tasmanian identity Peter Hayes, recognising his outstanding contribution to the administration of greyhound racing in Tasmania over the past two decades.

Congratulations to Peter on this thoroughly deserved recognition and his continued dedication to the sport.
