Combat BJJ Recap 🥋
We had two of our own competing at Combat BJJ on the weekend, Taylah and Eric, and both put on a show.
Taylah had a tough draw against Sophie, a technical grappler from MMA North. What stood out most was how far Taylah came during her training camp. Seeing that much improvement in such a short time was already a huge win for us before she even stepped on the mat.
Then she went out and had an incredible match. It swung back and forth the whole way. Taylah dominated on the feet with some big throws, then fought her way through a wild scramble on the ground. She escaped a fully locked armbar after being flattened out on her stomach, and then landed some absolute hammers from guard. Sophie caught her late with an omoplata to finish it, but the match was announced as Fight of the Night.
Eric was up against Jason King, a tough and skilled brown belt from 10th Planet Hobart. Anytime we face someone from 10th Planet Hobart, we know they’ll be a very skilful grappler.
Eric has had a lot going on outside the gym lately, and most people in that position wouldn’t have competed. He showed up anyway and showed exactly why he’s one of the best judokas in Australia, with multiple highlight-level throws on Jason. He controlled the match from start to finish and then submitted Jason in the last 30 seconds.
A big thank you to everyone who made the trip up to support the crew, and a huge shout out to Archie Beck, who showed up every week to help during camp. Our competitors can’t turn up prepared on the day without people like Archie.
