Yesterday we held the Class 1 Doubles and the final was a belter.

After breezing through their semi final, Pete Boyles and Al Ramsay had the unenviable task of trying to take down Oliver Pridmore and Jeremy Rackham.

The first set went according to plan for the two good mates. After going down 1/3 they tightened things up and put the pressure on which resulted in a few errors from the racquets of Pridmore and Rackham, taking the last 5 games and the set 6/3.

The second set was game for game up until 5/4 with Pridmore and Rackham leading and this time the errors came from the other end, Pridmore and Rackham levelling at a set all. 6/4.

The top seeds then ran away with things. Pridmore playing freely and hitting his targets and Rackham holding strong, it was too much for Boyles and Ramsay. The match over, 3/6 6/4 6/2.

A wonderful final which produced some great rallies, some incredible gets and pick ups. Congratulations to Oliver Pridmore and Jeremy Rackham on their second Class 1 Doubles victory as a pair and Pridmore’s 3rd in a row.

This Sunday we’re playing the class 1 doubles, the club’s premier doubles event.

Starting at 2pm with the semi final between Al Ramsay and Pete Boyles v Nick Rooke and Rob Braithwaite.

Followed by the final at 5pm where the winner of the semi final books a date against Oliver Pridmore and Jeremy Rackham.

It’s sure to be a great afternoon of quality doubles tennis so come on down to the club, kick your feet up and enjoy a beverage while the club’s best battle it out. We’ll see you there!

It was a smaller team that came down from Ballarat for this year’s Bartlett Cup but what they lacked in size they made up for in spirit.
After a close fought Saturday which saw Hobart up by a solitary match the locals ran away and claimed the tournament 12 matches to 8 but as always tennis was the real winner. Actually no, it was Hobart. Hobart was the real winner.

A final call for the Bartlett Cup this coming weekend against our friends from Ballarat.
It should be a fantastic weekend with not only tennis but two social functions as well.

The first is Friday night drinks to welcome the visiting team from 5:30pm, there will be nibbles and a BBQ while our social pennant is played in the background.

The second will be the tournament dinner from 6:30pm on the Saturday night, this will be a curry night with four delicious homemade curries to choose from as well as homemade rotis. This is one you cannot miss!

To sign up either put your name down on the sign up sheets at the club or contact the pros. Be quick as spaces are limited.

The NSW Open wrapped up today and once again Hobart was on display.

It was a fantastic weekend of tennis with Jackson making the main draw semi finals for the first time in his career.

Jackson and Sam played solid tennis in the doubles semis against two very experienced opponents.

Sammy taking out the Open Plate in his last match on Australian soil for a while. We’d love to wish Sammy well in his endeavours to the UK, he’ll be greatly missed around the club. Safe travels.

Finally it would be remiss of us to not mention one of Hobart’s finest products, Kieran Booth, who took out both the singles and the doubles.

We now turn our attention to next weekend’s Bartlett Cup where we’ll welcome the team from Ballarat. Sign up for that and its accompanying social functions at the club the today!

Mixed results for our lads in NSW. Jackson came through a tight match over fellow Hobartian and current Sydney-sider Alex Rackham 5/6 6/4 6/5 advancing to the semi finals of an open for the first time.
While Sammy Legg put up a brave fight against a quality opponent in Chris Chapman but it wasn’t to be going down 2/6 1/6.
Former Hobartians Kieran Booth and Ted Alexander also did battle with Kieran making quick work of it, 6/1 6/0.

The boys are both back in action today with Jackson taking on Chris Chapman (cue the Mission Impossible theme) at 10:30 in the semi finals and Sammy playing SRTC assistant pro Nat Cherry in the plate semi final.
Then not before 4:45 the boys are teaming up and have the tough task of top seeds Booth and Chapman in the doubles.

Congratulations to Pete Boyles who overcame a strong challenge from Sammy Legg to win the Class 1 Club Championship 6/3 3/6 6/4.

The match started with Pete putting Sam under immediate pressure, causing a few errors from the racquet of Legg. Boyles taking a 5/1 lead. Legg found his composure and steadied, clawing back two games to get to 3/5 before Boyles shut the door on the first set with some deft touch, sliding a backhand volley under the grille.

This didn’t deter Legg who came out strongly in the second set, taking a 3/0 lead and turning the tables as the errors from Boyles’ racquet started to climb. Using his vast experience in big matches, Boyles scrapped and chased, drawing level at 3/3. Legg wasn’t to be denied however and ran away with the next three games to take the second set 6/3 and force the match to a decider.

The pair went game for game in the final set, both hitting some sublime winners and digging balls out of the corners. That was until 4/4 when Boyles drew on years of big moments in big matches to close out the last two games and win yet another A grade title in front of a packed dedan.

A match played in great spirit and what will be the last for Legg in Hobart for the foreseeable future as he jets off to the motherland post NSW Open. Keep your eyes on our socials for more info about that, a few familiar faces will be making an appearance on the world’s newest court.
