In case you missed it…UniQueens are the champions! 🏆

UniQueens have finished their 2026 season on the biggest stage, defeating a determined Burnie Emus 34-24 in a thrilling TRU Women’s Rugby Grand Final, coming from third place on the ladder to claim the premiership!

UniQueens started with purpose, looking confident with the ball and playing a much more structured game. The girls moved the ball well, using their backline to create opportunities and putting pressure on Burnie’s defense. But with less than a minute before halftime, Burnie found the try line and closed the gap.

HALFTIME: UniQueens 22–10 Burnie Emus

The second half was a completely different challenge. UniQueens made a few mistakes and found themselves under pressure, with two players sent to the naughty chairs.

Reduced to just 12 players, Burnie took advantage and put the UniQueens defence under enormous pressure. The Emus fought their way back into the contest, turning what had looked like a runaway UniQueens victory into a genuine Grand Final battle.

But this UniQueens side showed exactly what they were made of. They stayed composed, worked for each other and slowly regained control of the ball.

With around five minutes remaining, Burnie scored again, keeping the pressure firmly on.

Then came the final kick off. Alona sent the ball deep into Burnie territory and Ella and Imogen chased hard, forcing a Burnie knock on. With a couple more scrums near Burnie’s try line our forwards stepped up winning a scrum and to finish it off, our captain Marli crossed for the final try. What a way to finish!

This premiership belongs to every single player who trained, tackled, carried, supported, laughed, and kept showing up for each other.

And to Burnie Emus, what a battle. Huge respect. ❤️

UniQueens, Fale and I couldn't be prouder of you all. You believed. You fought. You never gave up.

It’s a heartbreaking end to the season for the UTAS Lions, going down to Taroona 29-28 in a hard-fought semi final.

Taroona started strongly, scoring the first two tries, but the Lions fought their way back into the game to trail 17–14 at half time. The second half was a back and forth battle, with both sides giving it their all right until the final whistle. In the end, the Lions fell just one point short of a grand final appearance.

Max Nina led well out of position at 10, Jeremy was a constant attacking threat, Tom Burt put in some great runs, and Kal Krautz made a big impact from fullback.

2026 was our first full season as a combined club. Despite fluctuating numbers throughout the season, the boys put in a huge effort every week and continued to compete in every game. It was also great to welcome a number of new and first year players who will help build a strong base for the seasons ahead.

We’re incredibly proud of the boys for making the semi finals and coming so close to a grand final appearance.

What a game!

UniQueens secured a hard fought 24–17 victory over Taroona in a tough and physical semi final, earning our spot in the Grand Final!

From the opening whistle, the girls showed plenty of determination and composure. Taroona came out strongly and challenged us right across the park, but the girls stuck to the game plan and kept working for each other.

There were some great attacking moments, strong carries, big tackles and plenty of pressure from both sides. When the game got tight, the girls showed real character, staying composed and fighting right until the final whistle.

A 24–17 win in a semi final is something to be proud of. The girls have worked incredibly hard throughout the season, and today they showed exactly what this team is capable of when they back themselves and play for each other.

A massive thank you to our coaches, manager, supporters and everyone who has backed this team throughout the season. And to the girls enjoy this one, because you’ve earned it! ❤️
