📋TEAM SELECTIONS - SENIORS 📋

The weather looks much more cricket worthy this weekend as all our sides are back in action! Our A, B and C grade are back to two day games.

A grade play at Hope Valley against Trinity, whilst the Bs head to Para Hills.

C grade are at St Paul's this weekend, facing Grange as Zac Butler takes the captaincy reigns for this game. A big welcome back to Ollie Shimmin who played juniors at Hope Valley and will make his senior debut this weekend. And a big welcome to Lovepreet Randhawa who is making his debut for the club.

D grade are facing Old Concordians away for their first game of the season. Sachiel Simon, Parmod Kumar and Rayan Dewan suit up for their first game for Hope Valley CC.

Our women's team also kick off their season away from home against Gaza. Welcome to Ai-my Nguyen and (an official welcome to) Aubree Christie who will be making their debuts this weekend. More on this shortly.

📣 SENIOR WOMENS CAPTAIN ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

Hope Valley Cricket Club is excited to announce Scarlett Pearce as the new captain for the Senior Women's team.

Scarlett shows many qualities to be excellent leader. In just her second year of senior cricket, what she may lack in cricketing experience she certainly makes up for in enthusiasm and drive to excel.

Scarlett says 'I want us to build a strong team, good vibes and have plenty of fun on and off the field'

Congratulations on your appointment and good luck, Scarlett. The Valley is right behind you!

We would also like to acknowledge and thank Emma Lumley for the hard work she has put in and for her passion in her time as captain.

Emma has stepped down from captain to a co-vice captain role with Isabella Phillips.

We chose to bowl first, but couldn't tame the breeze at one end, leaking 61 Extras. Some great fielding from Damon and Will, began the wickets. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get going with the bat either, finishing up 6 overs short!
Lots to work on, but we'll get there!

Bowling: Zac Hatchard 2/13, Aarav Katiyar 2/20
Glenunga were cruising at 1/132 before the boys hit back hard, taking 7/35 to finish them at 8/167. Zac and Aarav led the charge with every bowler and our fielders all applying pressure. Welcome back Jamie Hussell, who chipped in with his first wicket. Plenty of confidence to take into next week.

🔵🔴 SENIOR MEN'S CRICKET SUMMARY 🔴🔵

A and B grade both played one dayers for round 1 but C grade was washed off, thankfully before they made the trip to Reynella.

A GRADE WRAP:
vs Goodwood @ Goodwood
In the first game of the season, the A grade had a fresh looking group with several changes. We had three HVCC and A grade debuts as well as a handful of players stepping up from last year's B grade. Pasan was a ball magnet all day and Qaid Vapiwala took his first wicket for the club.

B GRADE CAPTAINS COMMENTS:
vs Brighton @ Hope Valley
'Firstly, honoured to skip in the 300th. We had an honourable defeat and our intent and discipline was good. We welcomed many new players. Akash took his first pole for the club and Olivin showed us a glimpse of the destruction he will do this year. Aidan looked all class with the bat & emptied the tank in the field, Dilan was solid with the gloves and Pachan patiently built his way into his innings before pumping Brighton repeatedly to the boundary. Lachy kept his head still & pushed us past 150 competently supported by J Marsh.'

🏏 A GRADE DEBUT 🏏

On Saturday Amir Latifi, Qaid Vapiwala and Pasan Saliya made their A grade debut for the club in their game against Goodwood. Happy to have you on board lads!

🔵🔴 300 SENIOR GAMES 🔴🔵

Hope Valley Cricket Club would like to send the biggest congratulations to Heath Weber on being just the 3rd player to reach 300 senior games for the club.

Heath began his senior journey at Hope Valley in 1989 (pre PlayCricket days so we've done our best on stats), and is still a weekly feature in our two day sides. In this time, he has scored over 400 runs in a season on four occasions, with his highest season tally 526.

Heath has scored a whopping 10,314 runs @ 24.9, with his highest score 133 as well as 417 wickets @ 21.4 with his best 6/45.

Heath won a C grade premiership in 2022-23 and with over 50 T20 games for the club has played in three T20 premierships. Heath was also named Club Champion in 2010-11.

President and fellow 300 gamer Michael Barton had the following to say about Heath:
'What a great achievement by Heath to get to the 300 game milestone for Hope Valley. From being a young guy who used to miss cricket to play soccer, to being an opening bowler, to winning A grade batting trophies and then bowling leg spin. Throw in a few thousand elaborate dives in the field and there is not much that Heath has not achieved for Hope Valley. I think I am right in saying that he is the reining highest run scorer in the history of the club.

In addition to always wanting to be in the game, whether that be bowling, batting or fielding what Heath has always brought to his cricket is a great energy and an enthusiasm for the game. The fact that he still has this passion at this stage of his cricketing career is a credit to him. A great characteristic of Heath is that he goes out of his way to encourage our younger cricketers, and he has helped many of them transition into our senior cricket ranks.

Well done Heath. You have deserved all the success you have achieved over the 300 games.'

📋TEAM SELECTIONS - SENIORS 📋

Guess who's back! Ground condition permitting 🌧️, our A, B and C grade kick off their season with one day games. We have several debuts with lots of new faces in our senior group.

A grade is playing Goodwood away. Congratulations to Amir Latifi, Pasan Saliya and Qaid Vapiwala who make their debut for Hope Valley in the As. Congratulations and welcome to the club!

B grade is facing Brighton at home. Congratulations to Heath who will be stand in captain in a very important game (more on this soon!). A warm welcome to Olivin Glen-Spyron, Dilan Hettiarachchi and Akash Santhes who will play their first game for Hope Valley!

Cs are against Reynella at Woodcroft College. Congratulations to Mitchell Keil who plays his first senior game for the club and a big welcome to Aayush Patel in your first game for the club.

We are so excited to get the season under way. Good luck to all our players this week. Let's kick the season off on a high!

📣 SENIOR MENS CAPTAIN ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

Before the season (hopefully 🌧️) kicks off on Saturday, Hope Valley Cricket Club would like the announce our captains for the senior men's teams for the 2026-27 season.

Ollie Pannell enters his second season as A Grade captain after taking the team to semifinals last season, narrowly missing an appearance in the grand final. Our A grade is in A2 again this season.

Jaydon Barton will lead the B Grade again for a third season. After a steady season last season, they remain in B1s.

Grant Bowen remains C Grade captain for a fourth season after a tough season last season. The Cs will play in C1 this season.

Jono DeConno enters his second season of captaining our D grade, one day side. This season the D grade will be playing in LO6s.

It's fantastic to see such stability across our leadership team this year. Good luck to all our captains. We can't wait to see the success you bring to our teams each week.

📣 SENIOR MENS CRICKET COORDINATOR ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

Hope Valley is very excited to announce Mark Wishart has been appointed senior men's cricket coordinator for the 2026-27 season.

This role will include liaising regularly with our coaches and captains to drive our common goals as well as leading the men's team selections.

Mark is a Hope Valley Cricket Club life member and has done extensive volunteer roles across the cricket and sporting clubs as well as winning multiple premierships as captain. He brings many years of cricket experience to this role and most importantly, a passion for Hope Valley cricket like no one else.

Thank you, Mark for taking on this critical role to help our teams succeed this season and into the future.
