Hornsby District Cricket Club We are a successful cricket club based in the Northern Sydney suburb of Hornsby.

Hornsby District Cricket Club is based in the Northern Sydney Suburb of Hornsby. We have 6 senior teams from A Grade to D Reserve Grade and 16 junior teams, making us the 2nd biggest Club in the Hornsby Kuring-gai and Hills District Cricket Association. We are a club that thrives on mateship and camaraderie, always looking to recruit new players of all standards, whether you have played no games before or a thousand, we would love to have you involved in the club.

We've nearly met the whole committee now, and today we have Happy Rana, Equipment Officer.

Why did you join the committee? "I came to Hornsby in 2016 as a player, not knowing a soul — I just wanted a game of cricket. The club gave me one that season and I’ve been here ever since. Taking on Equipment Manager was the least I could do to give back."

What do you love about Hornsby? "How quickly it stops being a club you play for and starts being one you belong to. I was a stranger that first season and the club made me one of its own before it was out. I’ve also had a few seasons at another club in the association, which taught me plenty — different captains, different grades, different dressing rooms all leave something with you. But Hornsby is the one I’ve always come back to. Ten seasons in, the thing that keeps me going is watching kids who started in juniors turn out in senior grades, and the people who quietly make a Saturday happen for everyone else."

Proudest Sporting Achievement? "Three premierships, and a few heartbreaks in finals — all of them hard earned. You can score all the runs you like, but the ones you remember are the days the whole side got there together. Senior Club Champion in 2016/17, my first season here, and the Senior President’s Award in 2025/26 sit on the shelf alongside them.

Beyond that it’s the innings and the spells you carry around with you. Career overview: 128 games, 1,976 runs with three centuries, the best of them 116. With the ball, 141 wickets, best figures of 5-21 and an economy of 3.23 across nearly 750 overs, including a season where I took 19 wickets at 9.50. The number I’m quietly proudest of in there is 142 maidens.”

Another long-time player, but newly minted committee member today - Krishna Srinivas, Secretary.

Why did you join the committee? "I’m excited to join the committee this year, stepping into the shoes of Mandeep. To be completely honest, I still don't have a full idea of what the role entails just yet, but I was told a beer or two is usually involved during the meetings—which was honestly all the motivation I needed to sign up!"

What do you love about Hornsby? "My history with Hornsby runs pretty deep. When I first moved to Australia back in 2003, Hornsby was the very first cricket club I joined. Around the same time, my son enrolled in Milo Cricket and played all the way through to the under-16s. I'm still playing here today, and one of my absolute proudest moments was the match where my son and I got to take the field together as a father-and-son duo."

Proudest sporting achievement? "Over the years, I’ve experienced plenty of grand final drama. After playing in three grand finals, I finally lifted the premiership trophy in 2011 with the B Reserve team. Funnily enough, that win happened at Parklands—the exact same ground where my son’s team would go on to win their own Under-16s premiership a few years later.

On a personal note, my absolute peak came between September and December 2010. During that brief golden run, I somehow managed the best bowling average across all grades at a staggering 6.5, with a strike rate of 10.2. It’s safe to say it has been downhill ever since:) but I'm looking forward to contributing to the club off the field this season."

I'd be very surprised if you haven't met this committee member already! Alec Southam, President.

- ⁠Why I joined - "I’ve been playing for Hornsby now for 30 yrs. I joined the committee 6yrs ago as editor of the newsletter. After so long with the club I hoped I could make a small contribution to help. But once I had a seat at the table I found there were so many more opportunities to help this great club grow. "

- ⁠What I love about Hornsby - "I love the community who, at its heart, has always been about simply playing cricket. There have been years of plenty and lean years too, but the club has always kept to its core value “Win without boast, lose without excuse”. Playing in the true spirit of cricket. I have made friends and memories at Hornsby to last a lifetime."

- Proudest sporting achievement - "Scoring a century in U16s with my best mate at the other end. We started playing Kanga cricket together in U6s at Storey Park. Finishing our Junior Cricket journey together like this was very special."

We're getting back to meeting our committee, and today it's Chris Blinman, Club Coach - glad to have you on board!

Why they joined - "really enjoyed how welcoming and organised the club has felt in my first 2 years here and I wanted to give back and help out where I can"

What they love about Hornsby - "the sense of community across the whole club. Hornsby feels like a community and not just a collection of individual teams"

Proudest sporting achievement - "carrying my bat to 147 not out to win a grand final in my first season as a Hornsby captain. Especially after a leaner start to the year it felt really good to lead from the front"
