Classes are led by experienced instructors in a welcoming environment. Horsham BJJ (Bear Cave BJJ, Horsham branch) is a member of the Will/Machado BJJ family. Horsham BJJ is proud to partner with Horsham's premier Martial Arts club - Horsham Allied Martial Arts (HAMA). Our coach is a purple belt under Australia's highest ranked BJJ instructor, Professor John Will - and currently studies under the close guidance of Trent “Bear” Rice, of Bear Cave Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at The Ballarat Dojo. We believe in BJJ as not just a practicable form of self defense, but a way for people of all fitness levels to get healthier - in both the body and the mind. If you commit yourself to martial arts you will gain self confidence, discipline, and perhaps most importantly, a community of people to call your friends. Important Reminder for parents: please check your emails for class updates.
No kids classes tonight or next Wednesday, however, Matt Mellington has kindly offered a spot in his kids karate class for any of our junior students who are able to make it. The class runs from 5:30pm to 6:15pm on the main blue mats. Just wear your normal training gear (gi and belt).

Sharing this one again because it’s worth a recap.

A quick history lesson, because history is important, and so is understanding your place in the landscape of martial arts.

Pictured here is John Will with Rigan Machado and Helio Gracie. The second photo is Jesse Millar, Horsham BJJ Head Coach, and Trent Rice, Bear Cave BJJ Head Coach, with John.

Jesse and Trent first met and trained together at Redcat Geelong under John Will.

John was Australia’s first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt in the 1990s and more recently became the first Australian to receive his coral belt.

John trains under Rigan Machado, who trained under Carlos Gracie Snr and Helio Gracie, two of the founding figures of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Rigan’s family.

So what we do on the mats at Horsham BJJ is connected to a much bigger story, one that goes right back to the early days of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
