BIG THREE WEEKS FOR GURRY
THE RUN HOME

Andrea Gurry (Nhill) led in six winners and numerous placegetters over the past three-week period to take local training honours ahead of Ian Robinson (Avoca) and Garry George (Beulah) who both led in two winners followed by Michael Callanan (Horsham) and the Fullerton team (Red Cliffs) with a winner each.

Gurry struck first with Lektra Rodger at Ballarat, Rodger missed the start terribly and was a clear last, he then mustered quickly to swoop the field storming down the outside grabbing the leaders and extending away to win well in 22:46sec. Two days later Lektra Knight jumped well and pushed hard for the early lead and once on the lure he did a demolition job on the field winning by 7 lengths in a quick 22:13sec. Paw Harkonnen then won the first of two for the period when he landed on the arm and wasn’t for catching breaking away to an early lead and greeting the judge first in a strong 23:51sec. Gurry then headed to Warrnambool where Lektra Jimmy jumped well from the wide draw and worked his way across the field beautifully entering t he corner where he pinched a race winning lead, Jimmy was the first to the judge scoring a very nice 25:41sec, Street Sixty Six also stepped out at Warrnambool and also from the outside draw beginning well Sixty Six displayed good mid race pace to cross the field by the corner and then race away to victory in a very nice 22:26sec. Paw Harkonnen brought up his second win for the period jumping straight to the front from the middle trap at Horsham over the 485m journey and he was not for catching greeting the judge first in 27:40sec.

Elliot Nova pinged the lids for Avoca trainer Ian Robinson at Ballarat and was never in danger with a brilliant front running exhibition, stopping the clock in 22:38sec. Robinson then produced Pyrenees Ace at Horsham where he displayed blistering early speed mustering up and crossing the field before the first corner and simply extended the margin from that point on securing a quick 23:49sec victory.

Justify this for Garry George stepped out at Horsham and jumped well off the inside draw quickly taking ascendancy of the race to win by four lengths in 23:85sec, George then made it a double on the night when Flying Intention split the field up early with scintillating early speed to open up a margin, the challenge came late from Wax and Wash but Flying Intention was able to hold Wax and Wash off winning in a smart 23:43sec.

The Michael Callanan and Wayne Oliver team struck once again with Can Do Grace at Warrnambool, Grace flew the lids and was off and gone over the 390m trip and at no stage was she in any danger with the little fawn chaser clocking her second win in three weeks with a best of the day run of 22:32sec.

Nosey Parker for team Fullerton continued his very consistent run of form saluting at Horsham, beginning on terms he was able to muster and set up a race winning lead by the time they turned for home and in very trying conditions he stopped the clock in 23:46sec.

ERIC SUCCESSFUL, EVENTUALLY
THE RUN HOME

It was Dynamite Eric for the Hartigan’s (Horsham) and Can Do Grace for the Callanan, Oliver team (Horsham) who provided individual highlights over the past two weeks of racing. While Andrea Gurry (Nhill) with three victors of her own claimed individual training honours.

But it was Dynamite Eric for the Hartigan team who proved good Kalma does exist; Eric was victorious over the 485m journey but due to a waterfowl entering the track and crossing through the legs of one of the runners the race was deemed a no race by stewards. Fast Forward seven days and Eric lined up again over the 485m trip and jumped straight to the front and once he led he was never going to be run down winning by an ever increasing three lengths in the very nice time of 27:49sec and with the waterfowls staying away this time the race was his for the keeping.

Local Horsham owner Wayne Oliver and trainer Michael Callanan struck gold on Monday at Warrnambool when their little fawn chaser Can Do Grace claimed her maiden victory. Roars were heard all over Horsham as Oliver emptied his phone account on Grace, then watched her cruise to a two-length victory which was full of fight and strength as she pulled away late suggesting she will get further distances no problem at all. For Oliver it was his first winner as an owner and a prouder man you could not find.

Andrea Gurry continued her winning ways with three victories for the period the first being Paw Olson taking out the first of his two wins at Warrnambool on Monday the 3rd August, jumping well he positioned up second on cornering in very heavy conditions and driving rain, continuing to rail hard he took the lead turning for home and skipped away to a two-length victory. One week later Olson made it two on the bounce producing a railing masterclass through the bend, entering fourth and exiting in front he dropped the hammer and hit the line first in 22:43sec. Lektra Jimmy was Gurry’s third victor, stepping out at Ballarat Jimmy jumped from the wide draw and showed great dash on mustering up to swoop on the lead as the dogs entered the first corner from here Jimmy accelerated away cruising to an impressive victory in the quick time of 25:37sec.

Elliot Nova landed the money for committee member Ian Robinson, away only fairly Nova charged through the field hitting the corner with a rails run taking the lead and easing to a solid victory in 23:82sec.

Solar Jessie for Victor Millington displayed a perfect front running display to land the cash at Warrnambool on Monday, jumping straight to the front she was never troubled winning in 22:67sec.
