Taketani Judo Academy The Taketani Judo Academy is one of Melbourne's leading places to learn Judo. Taketani Judo Academy originated at the Malvern Health and Fitness Centre in 2013.

In November 2016, we opened our own full-time Judo Dojo in Oakleigh. In October 2018, after just 2 short years of incredible growth, we moved to our new state of the art Dojo just around the corner in Huntingdale. We have more than 70 junior members and 40 senior members. We currently have 14 medalists, 7 gold , 2 silver and 5 bronze, from the recent Australia National Judo Championships training with us. Head coach Nao is from Japan and he has 4th Dan Judo black belt. He graduated from one of the most prestigious Judo universities in Japan. He has trained with Olympic athletes in Japan, USA and Australia.

Another great day in Brisbane, with some much improved performances from our kids.

Today was the Australian School Championships, and each of our kids learned from yesterday’s fights and came back with much better performances today. I was very happy with not only the results, but also the way they fought.

A big thank you to all the parents who made the trip to Brisbane and supported the kids throughout the weekend. I really appreciate your support.

That wraps up two days of competition for us, but the trip is not quite over yet. Two of our students will be joining the Training Camp at Ohori Judo Club tomorrow and Tuesday.

Five competitors, three gold medals and two silver medals.

A great start to the weekend at the Qld International Open.
We had five TJA competitors on the mat today, and every one of them came away with a medal. A fantastic result and a great way to finish Day 1.
Tomorrow, the same five competitors will be back on the mat for the School Championships.
There were plenty of good performances today, but also plenty we can learn from. Hopefully everyone can take those lessons into tomorrow and come back even better.
For now, get some good rest, recover well, and be ready to go again tomorrow.

Congratulations to everyone who came away with a medal, and well done to all of our athletes who stepped onto the mat and competed at the JVI Spring Tournament yesterday.

This tournament was also a special one for Xavier, Mia and Charlie, as it was their very first competition.

Competing for the first time is a big step. Training at the dojo and stepping onto the mat against someone you have never fought before are very different experiences. Regardless of the result, having the courage to take that first step is something to be proud of.

Competition also gives us an opportunity to discover things that we may not notice in our everyday training. What went well, what did not work, and what we need to improve next. Hopefully everyone can take something from this tournament and bring it back to their training at the dojo.

Finally, thank you to all the parents for your continued support, and a big thank you to Stuart and Marie for coaching and supporting our athletes throughout the day.

Well done, everyone. Back to training!

This year, we took a small team to the Adelaide International Open.

For Nadia, James, Taylor and Max D, this was their first interstate competition. They all gave it everything they had and did a great job showing what they have been working on in training.

In the U15 division, Michael and Rijker both faced bigger opponents and fought with great courage and determination. Rijker unfortunately fell short this time, while Michael came away with a well-deserved win.

Ji competed in the 66kg division and made great use of his variety of techniques and speed, earning bronze medals in both the Junior and Senior divisions.

A great effort from our small TJA team in Adelaide. Very proud of how everyone competed and represented the club.

Yesterday, we held our TJA Inter Club Competition at Taketani Judo Academy.

We were very happy to welcome more than 100 young Judoka, around 30 more competitors than at our previous event. Despite the cold Melbourne weather, the dojo was full of energy, excitement and great Judo throughout the day.

Most importantly, I am very happy and relieved that we were able to finish the competition safely without any serious injuries.

There are also a couple of things that I would like to apologise for.

With around 30 more competitors than our previous event, I underestimated how much additional time we would need. Unfortunately, we were not able to run the Randori session that we had planned after the matches. I am very sorry to the children who were looking forward to it.

We also had an issue with the Medal Presentation for one of the groups. Every child competed hard and deserved to have their effort properly recognised, so I am truly sorry that we did not get this right.

These are things we will learn from and improve for our next competition.

A huge thank you to all the Judoka who stepped onto the mat and gave their best, and to all the parents and coaches who came and supported them. Having more than 100 children together enjoying Judo made the dojo feel incredibly alive.

Finally, a very special thank you to all the TJA members, coaches and parents who helped us throughout the day. An event like this simply cannot happen without people willing to give their time and support behind the scenes.

Thank you to everyone who was part of the day. We hope this competition gave every young Judoka another positive experience and another reason to enjoy Judo.

We look forward to making the next TJA Inter Club Competition even better.
