As core committee members relocated or stepped down, Inverell MTB Club disbanded and entered dormancy. Its lease with council lapsed, closing the trails.
According to newly appointed President Stewart Johnston, it was losing access to their local network that finally shook the community awake.
“Once we managed to get a committee together, reform the club, and reaffiliate, it was fairly quick to update the old agreement, get it re-signed and reverse the trail closure.”
A new six-person committee of local parents signed a five-year lease and has paused their race program to focus on family days and social rides instead.
