INVERLOCH BOWLING CLUB REPORT
WEEK ENDED: SUNDAY, 20 SEPTEMBER 2026.

The Club had its second intra-club practice match on Tuesday, 15 September and regretfully it was brought to a premature end due to a very strong and chilly breeze coming up from the Southwest. The Match-committee made the decision that conditions were too averse to continue the practice, and it was called off after about 6 ends.

The Clubs next match was against the Wonthaggi Bowling Club on Saturday, 19 September, playing for the Bunerong Coast Challenge Shield, an annual event which Commenced in the 2008/9 season with Inverloch having won it on 8 occasions, however Wonthaggi has reigned supreme for the past three seasons and Inverloch was looking to end that run of wins by Wonthaggi.

Despite the fine, sunny but windy conditions, Wonthaggi proved to be too good on the day, winning 10 of the 12 playing rinks with an overall score of 91 shots-up. In Division One, the rink scores were 19/22, 17/21 and 9/33, Division Two saw rink of 10/29, 12/22 and 24/19. Division Three had rink scores of 15/29, 10/35 and 17/23 while in Division Four they were 14/21, 17/21 and 24/14.

Overall, the match was played in good spirit but with a healthy dose of competitiveness that befits two of the power clubs in the district.

The next two practice matches are against Tarwin Lower at their green on Tuesday, 22 September, followed by a home match against Corinella on Tuesday, 29 September, and a gentle reminder to players that both matches will be in full club uniform. As usual, all club members are invited and encouraged to attend the venues to support the players as they prepare for the forthcoming Pennant Season.

On Wednesday, the Club hosted the monthly Triples Competition, sponsored by Plasterwise Plastering Services (0418 107 363), and was pleased to see 75 players competing from all over the Bass Coast and beyond.

The competition comprised four, ten end games, two before and a further two after lunch with the winner being decided on wins, shots-up and ends won in need.

So, to the results. The Best First Game produced two teams with identical results, nine shots-up. They were, team thirteen, M. Hannaford (Skip), D. Archer (Second) and J. Deucher (Lead). Drawing with them was team 2, J. Newcombe, G. Walker and P. Ryan. The Best Second Game was taken out by team twenty-four, with 13 shots-up. Team 10 won the Best Third Game, R. Cove, R. Howard and G. Scott with a total of eight shots-up. The Best Fourth Games was from team 25, T. McKiernan, B. McGowan and Frankie with 14 shots-up.

As a special event on the triple’s day, where anybody could win the Lucky Draw, the team which scored the correct amount of shots-up in a secret game. The requirement was Game four and 5 shots-up, and the team that corresponded to this was team 2 who finished 5 shots-up in game four, being J. Newcombe, G. Walker and P. Ryan.

Now, to the overall winners. The breeze probably had a bit to do with it as there was no four game winners on the day, however there were two teams winning three games and a draw. The Runners-up, with three wins and a draw and six shots-up were, T. Gibson, P. Bean and L. Wearne. The winners of the Plasterwise Triples, also with three wins and a draw, but with 19 shots-up, were B. Massier, S. Snelling and L. Gabell.

Thanks are extended to the ladies who prepared lunches, B. Marshall, M. Ferguson and D. DeForest.

On Thursday, 17 September, the club had its social day where 40 players braved the chilly wind to play two 10 end games with lunch in the middle and despite the chill, three teams managed to win both of their matches. The Hard Luck Story went to the team of Laurel lee (skip), Peter Shaw (third) and Kevin Wolstencroft (lead) having two wins and 8 shots up and rink scores of 12/5 and 10/9. The Runners-up, with rink scores of 14/7 and 15/7 (two wins and 15 shots up, were Terry Orford (skip), Bill Brown (third), Ryan Luke (second) and Harry Evans (lead). The winners, on two wins and 16 shots up (16/5 and 13/8) were Carol Hughes (skip) Mean Price (third) and Ross Henderson (lead).

The membership draw of Inverlolch Bowling Club members took place last Friday evening, 18 September, where membership number 250 (Brett O’Donovan) was drawn. Brett was not at the Club so the draw went unclaimed and at the next draw the prize will be $140. The pick of the table went to Nic Van Grunsven ( #231) while the major lucky envelopes were won by Nel Van Grunsven and Pam Thomason. The final table prize which was the succulents and $20 was won by Jim Haydon. The next membership draw will be on 3 October.

The next Club Dinner will be on Friday, 9th October so make sure that you record your booking.

A Trivia night is also happening on Friday, 23 October at 7pm and this is where you can prove to all and sundry that you are the most knowledgeable person in town. Full details and bookings can be made through Mark Whitehouse on 0409 195 478. Get in early and be part of the fun.

Members Night

Good Afternoon All,

A reminder that it is Member's Night again tomorrow from 5pm at the Bowls Club.

The jackpot tomorrow night is $120 if you are present when your name is drawn.

INVERLOCH BOWLING CLUB REPORT
WEEK ENDED: SUNDAY, 13 SEPTEMBER 2026.

The Club was saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Esmay Coram, past Lady Member of the Inverloch Bowling Club. Esmay was well respected by her peers and all playing colleagues and is the mother of Mick Coram, current member of the Club. We also learned of the passing of Mrs. Wilma Scott, mother of Gary Scott, also a current Club member. The Club extends its condolences to both Mick and Gary together with their respective families.

By the time you read this, all Inverloch Bowling Club Pennant players would have collected their new pennant uniforms just in time for the upcoming practice matches. The fresh uniform will look terrific on the greens.

Talking about practice matches the first intra club match was played last Friday afternoon, 11 September where the ‘Home’ team was versed against the ‘Away’ team with the ‘Away’ team reigning supreme on the day with a clean sweep of rinks, and, for transparency the ‘Away’ team’s rink scores were; 27/19, 31/17 & 29/15. On the other rinks, the ‘Away’ team did just as well, winning, 22/14 & 22/18.

Today, Tuesday, 15 September, another intra club match will be played with roll-up commencing at 9.30am. This match will be m***i attire. On Saturday, 19 September there will be the annual Bunerong Shield match against our neighbours, Wonthaggi on their greens. Roll-up will be at 12.30pm and then on Tuesday, 22 September we will travel over to Tarwin Lower where the roll-up will be at 9.30am. The final practice match will be on Tuesday, 29 September against Corinella at home with roll-up commencing at 9.30am. The Bunerong Shield, Tarwin Lower and Corinella matches will all be in full pennant uniform.

All club members are encouraged and invited to come along to the practice matches to support those players that will be representing the Inverloch Bowling Club in the forthcoming season.

Club Championships kick off on Friday, 9 October, which will mark the first round of the Men’s and Ladies Singles competition. The Men’s pairs will commence on 11 November, Mixed pairs on 15 January 2027 with the 100-Up competition commencing on 3 February 2027, so make sure that you have your nominations in to be part of the action. This will be a great learning experience for the newer bowlers in the Club.

A reminder that the Inverloch Bowling Club will be holding a trivia night on Friday, 23 October commencing at 7pm at the clubhouse so the instruction is to gather your smartest fellow members, friends, and family for a fun night of trivia, laughter, banter, and friendly competition. Cost is $10 per head with tables of eight available. For bookings and further information, contact Mark Whitehouse on 0409 195 478. It should be a great night.

On Thursday, 10 September, 46 bowlers attended the social bowling at the club where conditions were most favourable for bowling, yet despite this there were only two teams that managed to win both of their matches. The Runners-up, with two wins (10/7 and 13/12) and four shots up were John Duthie (skip), Rob Howard (third), Peter Gentsch (Second), and Len Gale (Lead). The winners on the day were Chris O’Donnell, Ted Lee, Rob Higgins, and Ray Cox, also with two wins (13/9 and 12/7) and nine shots up.

Make sure that your diary records the upcoming Club Membership Draw on 18 September, where $120 is up for grabs as well as other prizes, including Lucky Envelopes and the Pick of The Table. Also, the next Club Dinner is scheduled for Friday, 9 October, where there is a door prize plus the largest spinning wheel in town. Do not forget to register your attendance in the usual manner on the board near the front door at the Clubhouse.

Inverloch Community Bowls

Inverloch Bowls Club is holding the Community Bowls Competition from October 21. We are looking for teams of three so get some mates together and have some fun under the lights. Interested, contact the Inverloch Bowls Club (leave a message) on 5674 1655. The competition runs for 12 rounds on Wednesday nights with a long break over the Christmas Holiday period finishing on Feb 24. $12 per player per night includes a BBQ meal. Bowls and tuition supplied as required."

INVERLOCH BOWLING CLUB REPORT
WEEK ENDED: SUNDAY, 6 SEPTEMBER 2026.

Last Thursday saw the opening of the 2026/27 bowling season at Inverloch and it was great to see more than 60 people turn up for the opening under threatening skies and a stiff breeze.

The opening bowls were delivered by the reigning Men’s Champion, Keith Cousens and Anne Tschiderer, who was the runner-up Ladies Champion and standing in for the Ladies Champion, Lorraine Dowson, who is currently overseas having been an officiating umpire at the recent Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

The opening ceremony was followed by two-ten end games comprising a mixture of fours and triples.

All bowlers found it a ‘difficult day at the office’ due to the ever-present wind which was a little flukey in its strength. However, despite this, six teams won both of their games.
Finishing in equal fourth place with two wins and 30 points, were the teams of Keith Cousens (skip), Rob Howard (third), Pat MacKay (Second) and Andrew Rowe (lead); Geoff Coleman, Karen Orford, Jill Kennedy and Pam Sutcliffe; Martin Hannaford, Paul Davis, Ryan Luke and Harry Evans who was ably supported by Bateman. The Hard-Luck Story went to the team of Gary Scott, Carol Hughes and Bill Brown with two wins, 32 points and 12 shots-up. The Runners-up, with two wins, 32 points and 19 shots-up were Mal Marshall, Carol Waters and John Cook. But, taking out the top prize with two wins and 33 points were Reg Varty, Steve Snelling, Patrick Bowd and Max Wightman.

Following the presentations the group enjoyed a sumptuous afternoon tea with a lot of discussion concerning whose bowl did this and how the wind affected the line, all I might add in a very jovial manner.

On Friday, 4 September, a large crowd gathered at the Club where the Club’s Membership draw took place with $100 being up for grabs, and all you had to do was to be in the clubrooms at the time of the draw when your name was randomly selected. Membership number 17 (Alan Briggs) was drawn however Alan was not present and accordingly the next membership-draw will be $120. The ‘Pick of the Table’ was won by #216 (Frank Thomas).

The Lucky Envelopes went to; $50 (Judy Thomas & Debbie Marshall, $20 (Joyce Arnold) with the $10 going to John Sutcliffe and the final table draw was won by visitor, Kerrie Reynolds.

Congratulations to all the winners on the night, the next Membership Draw will be on 18 September so come along and join in the fun.

Also, thanks are extended to the following volunteers who made the evening; Judy Parker, Jill Edwards, Bill Brown, Mary Ferguson, Shirley Scott and of course, the emcees, John Sutcliffe and Bill Massier.

It would be appreciated if all members who have ordered new uniforms adhere to this timetable. As you can appreciate, the ordering, purchasing, etc. has been quite an ordeal and it will be a 'relief' (to say the least) to have this exercise completed. Jon will be in attendance to collect payment, but payment before hand via bank transfer would be appreciated.

Pennant Practice Games - it is very pleasing to see all pennant players (and all Inverloch members for that matter) putting in 'practice time' - the season is fast approaching and I am very excited about the players we have this year - it is going to be a 'great year' for Inverloch. I have been a member of Inverloch (albeit not always representing Inverloch) for many years and I don't recall witnessing the enthusiasm being evident this early in the season for many years. With this in mind, please ensure that you have your names on the practice lists, and also if unavailable please indicate on the list. Lists and lists, but they are necessary.

Inverloch Bowls Club Thursday 27 August Social Bowls Report

56 keen players assembled for social bowls, and we all enjoyed the day. 2 games of 10 ends were played with the winners being Mark Whitehouse, Patrick Bowd, Malcolm Marshall and Richard Cove. Congrats to them! Runners-up on the day were John Cook, Pat Mackay, Marg Griffin and Gary Scott. Thanks to match committee for organising the day, and Jim Haydon for the delicious soup lunch.
