Vale Viv Rew – Life Member

Our Norths family received the very sad news last week that Life Member Viv Rew sadly lost his battle following a long illness.

On Saturday evening, during our Senior Presentation Night, Chris Leeder delivered a moving speech in Viv’s honour. Those in attendance also observed a minute’s silence to remember Viv and recognise his many contributions to Norths Hockey.

Viv will always be remembered as a valued member of our Norths family, and his contribution to our club will not be forgotten.

We send our love and deepest condolences to Vicki, Lee, Craig and Kerri and their families, as well as Viv’s brother Russell and all other family members during this incredibly difficult time.

Please find attached Viv’s funeral arrangements for those wishing to pay their respects.

2026 Milestone Games

This year, we had several members reach significant games-played milestones. Reaching these milestones takes years of commitment, countless training sessions, victories, disappointments, friendships and memories. It reflects not only a love for the game, but also a dedication to our club and teammates over many seasons.
This season, we congratulate the following members on their outstanding achievements:

2026 Steve Profke Rising Star Awards

In recognition of Steve's contribution to our club, the Rising Star Award was renamed in his honour. We all know Steve was passionate about junior development and took great pride in watching young players grow, improve and work their way through the ranks. If you spent any time around the fields on a Saturday morning, chances are you saw Steve. Often, camped out between the grass fields, red and white umbrella in hand, watching our Norths juniors. It's only fitting that an award recognising the future of our club now carries his name.

The Steve Profke Rising Star Award celebrates the development, dedication and potential of our young players as they make their mark in senior hockey. Presented to one male and one female player aged 17 years and under competing in the senior competition, this award recognises those who have shown outstanding growth throughout the season, both in their skills and their approach to the game.

It's not just about talent. It's about the effort put in, their willingness to learn, and the respect shown towards teammates, coaches, officials and opponents. These players lead by example and contribute positively to their teams. Their commitment and passion for the game are a great reflection of the future of our club. The award has become even more meaningful now that it carries Steve's name.

Both Bella and Ethan have shown tremendous growth, commitment and maturity throughout the season and are deserving winners of the award.

This award is decided by the Profke family and recognises an individual who has achieved the highest level of representation in Hockey, whether through playing, umpiring, coaching, managing or technical roles.

In Zac’s words:
This year’s recipient is a man who is basically 90 years old - or at least that’s what we reckon! We honestly can’t get over how he still runs around like a crazy person and continues to compete at such a high-level!

This year alone he has achieved some incredible things, representing his club, his state and his country. His commitment to Hockey is unbelievable and his passion for the game clearly hasn’t slowed down with age.

But beyond Hockey he is also a dear friend of our family and one of dad‘s best mates for a long time.

His achievements this year speak for themselves.

The Jeffrey family are a much-loved part of the Norths story. Over many years, Kerri and Gar Jeffrey have made an enormous contribution to the club through their dedication, hard work and service on the committee. That commitment to Norths has continued through their children, Cayce and Kira, who have also been outstanding club members and volunteers. This award recognises the spirit of volunteering that the Jeffrey family embodies and celebrates those who go above and beyond for our club. Wherever possible, it also provides an opportunity to recognise newer volunteers who have stepped up and made a real difference.

This year's recipient did exactly that. When the club needed a H2H coordinator, she didn't hesitate to put her hand up. Despite stepping into a new role, she needed very little guidance and quickly became an invaluable part of our team. With only a brief handover, she made the role her own and greatly relieved the pressure on other committee members. Her commitment has made a real impact, and the club is better for having her involved.

2026 Murray Memorial Trophy

This trophy is presented in honour of Mrs Murray, the mother of Life Member Athol Murray, who was a tireless contributor to Ipswich Hockey. The award recognises a club member who is always willing to step up and help wherever needed, whether that's as a player, coach, volunteer, or simply someone the club can rely on.

This year's recipient is someone who has given a lot of his time to coaching over several years. He's built a great connection with his players, and is deeply invested in their success. His dedication has helped guide his team (J1 Boys) to multiple finals campaigns and, this year, all the way to a well-deserved premiership.

This award recognises a club member who generously gives their time and energy to support Norths in a non-playing capacity. Behind every successful club are people who quietly contribute behind the scenes, and this award acknowledges the important role they play in helping our club thrive. This award was presented by our 2026 Patron and Life Member - Kel Iszlaub.

This year's recipient has been involved with the (J2) team for many years and is someone the boys know they can always count on. She keeps everything organised, somehow keeping everything running smoothly all season. She genuinely cares about the boys and only wants the best for them. She quietly goes about her role, never seeking recognition or praise for what she does. We're incredibly lucky to have her as part of our club, and she's a very deserving recipient of this award.
