And we’re off to the Boyne-Tannum dojo training weekend. All the Qld dojos getting together to share, learn and train.
Just got to get through the 550km ride first. It’s been 22yrs since I was last this way on two wheels. Something tells me my back and butt aren’t going to thank me.

The 7th World Cup 2027 will be held in Jakarta! About as close to our backyard as it gets. A perfect opportunity to watch, or compete in, an international event.

As 2025 bites the dust, huge thanks to Shihan Tony, Sempai Janelle, and the whole Lowood crew for giving us their time and energy, and to everyone who brought the party to tonight's session. With 2026 looking like it's going to be a big deal, let's take some time to recharge our batteries and refocus our aim. Here's to a Christmas that's merry and bright, and a New Year filled with good vibes, safety, and happiness.

A message from Hanshi
A message from Hanshi:
Having just returned from Japan I need to update you on a few things.
Firstly, we were all so proud of our fighters. Everyone from every Branch fought so well and the Australian contingent was legendary. It was obvious to all
Kaicho Adams will give you a progress report on all our fighters but they were just sensational and with a bit more luck we could have had more trophies (eg, Samuel Shields has 2 flags for him but the referee called a draw, Michel Dent got punched in the face and had concussion but was looking deadly until then).
Congratulations to Ysobel Jarjoura, Heavyweight Champion, Lily Shields Runner-up Middleweight, Samuel Shield 4th Middleweight. But also congratulations to all our fighters, you did us all proud.
Kaicho finished up coach of ALL the Australian fighters and what a great job he did. One of the best coaches on the planet.
Spare a thought for Jessica Belot (competitor) and Shihan Mike Wyvill (official). Jetstar cancelled their flight and had no alternative so they did not get to Japan. Very disappointing for them both.
Suffice it to say that Australia, and especially this Branch, has an International reputation for producing good fighters and an amazing support group.
The grading was, again, a highlight for Australia. There were many who said “if you want to know what to do, just follow Shihan Scott”. He did an incredible job. Kancho announced that the grading was going to finish early but the Australians made sure that Shihan Scott had a difficult journey but he made it with flying colours.
Sempai Heath and Sempai Jo were successful in their quest for Nidan.
However, the highlight for me came the next day when we all travelled to Ikebukuro to train at Honbu. I have never been in a dojo where the atmosphere was so electric. From the start everyone just put in 110%.
As I said to them, you are training where Sosai trained, you are sweating where Sosia sweated and you are fighting in his hallowed dojo. The kumite was so spirited that words cannot describe it.
It just does not get better than that and everyone who was there was a part of something very special.
The other highlight was the camaraderie amongst all in the Branch. It was quite something. The support they gave the fighters was inspirational and was noted by all who were there.
Fundraising. We raised a total of $20,000 for the fighters and officials. That is truly extraordinary and all who received the benefit were very grateful. This is a serious effort and just shows the strength of the Branch and the quality of the people in it.
The 1000 kicks was very well received and just showed how we can raise funds by doing what we love. Thank you to Kaicho for organising this.
Recycle Cans. We raised over $1600 this year and it is relatively easy money so we will be doing it again for funds for the national fighters. A notice will be coming out but please save ALL your cans of the holiday period so we can make much more.
Jackets & T Shirts. A special thank you to Sempai Wendy Viccars for designing the fabulous team jackets and T shirts. They were a huge success. AND also very special thank you the Sempai Chris Naylor for supplying and printing the T shirts at no cost to us. This was a very significant thing to do and helped us achieve our fundraising goal.
Thank you to ALL dojo operators and dan grades for your support and continuing efforts to develop the Branch and Matsushima Kyokushin.
2025 has been a very hectic year with the calendar having to be compressed with the World tournament in late November.
With no international event next year we can breathe a little easier and the calendar is more spaced (it is on the website).
On behalf of Sempai Wendy and myself we wish all members a very Happy Christmas and New Year period. Please stay safe.
Have a great time and we look forward to seeing you in 2026.

While I have a moment at the senior grading I thought take the time to post pics from our last junior grading.
Everyone did a great job and all passed. Some new colours on show and one adorned with that ‘senior’ black stripe. Osu.
