Little A's is for kids aged 5 - 16. U6-U8 begin at 5pm
U09-U17 begin at 6pm. Track events consist of sprints, distance, hurdles and walk.
Little Athletics commenced in Ipswich in 1976 as Bundamba Little Athletics and later moved to Bill Paterson Oval in 1981 with a name change to Ipswich Little Athletics. All age groups compete in a total of five track and field events each Friday night commencing at 5:30pm. Field events are long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus and javelin. Well what an exhausting but hugely successful State Relays for Ipswich. So many athletes on the podium and we are all so proud of our athletes.

Our Story
Ipswich Little Athletics Centre was established in September of 1976 at the Bundamba State High School. With a move to the Bill Paterson Oval, Lion Street, Ipswich came a name change and Bundamba Little Athletics became Ipswich Little Athletics in the 1981/82 season. The oval was named after a prominent Ipswich coaching identity Mr. Bill Paterson.
The Centre has grown over the years, from a humble 10m x 10m shed which catered for canteen, office and equipment the centre undertook the major task to upgrade and construct a building to include a more modern canteen, toilet block and office block. This was made possible by submissions to the State and Federal Governments, Ipswich City Council and Ipswich & District Athletics Club. All contributions were greatly appreciated. After years of planning Ipswich Little Athletics was finally able to install a permanent photo finish & recording building in the 2016/17 season.
For many season's now Ipswich Little Athletics has been fortunate to have many dedicated members who have fostered athletics and contributed to the centre to make it what it is today. Athletes from our Centre have proudly represented us at all levels of competition with some going on to the highest levels possible.
All age groups compete in a total of five track and field events each Friday night commencing at 5:30pm. Track events consist of sprints, distance, hurdles and walk. Field events are long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus and javelin. The emphasis is to learn the basics of all events and try to improve each time an athlete competes.
Training sessions are also offered to all athletes at no extra cost. Training is on Tuesdays from 5-6pm for U6, U7 and U8 athletes and 5-7pm for U9+ athletes.
